Do Tell: Do Falling Temperatures Change Your Routine?

Since we're rather temperate out in SF, North still enjoys his trips to Baker Beach . . . but stays far away from the now-chilly water save a few sniffs. When the temperatures drop in your neck of the woods, how do you alter your pup's fitness routine, be it shorter trips outdoors or active indoor alternatives?

I have two ACD/Collie crosses and they have thick double coats. When I lived in the south, the one would get sick in the heat and from May through September we had to limit how much he could be outside to just early morning or late evening and even then only like 10-15 minutes max and only light exercise. Now that we're back to living in the northeast, both pups are much happier. I actually walk my dogs more as the weather cools because they seem to be more hyper and energetic than in the summer. They love cold weather, especially snow! I just have to wear really heavy coats, gloves, scarves, hats, thermals, ha ha. The only time I walk them less is when the temps/wind chill dips too low - I wouldn't want to risk them getting frostbite.

YES. There is no way in h,e, double hockey sticks I'm walking Zena in the cold! I'll walk her if it's 50 degrees and a little windy; below that, Zena has herself parked indoors under the blanket with me. And we definitely do not go on walks when there's snow. I live in the mean ol' upper Midwest (think Lake Michigan), so we're generally colder than the Northeast and places like CO (ironic, I know). If it's really windy like it is up here, it feels even colder than the actual temp. I'd rather hibernate than have to go outside! However, she does play a lot of her version of Fetch when it gets cold. And when I say a lot of Fetch, I mean it. She's psychotic.

YES! I have a rather small toy apricot poodle. He never needed too much exercise outside, but I still insist on taking him out multiple times per day. However, living in the northeast, it is getting pretty frosty outside (where did fall go?). I am researching to get him his first winter coat, and buying dog litter to try and train to get him to go inside. He also like playing with his ball in our hallway, so that may have to be our main exercise during the cold winter days. =/
