I met my dog's mom because my friend and I know the breeder. About a year later I was at a flea market with my doggy and an older couple approached me because we had the same breed (chinese crested). Turned out it was my dog's daddy. small world!
I met my schnauzer's Mom- Betty Boop. Out of my hedgehogs, I met Sophie's parents but not Odeko's. She was the last one of her litter left and was too old to still be with her mommy.
All my cats were "used" (i.e. previously owned shelter fuzzballs), so I didn't get to meet their folks. I would have loved to, though. It would have been a hoot to see which characteristic came from Mom and/or Dad.
For my little girl dog, we got to meet the mother
However, for our first dog, our boy, we didn't get to meet either.
His mom had been killed by a car when they were still little puppies, and the dad wanted nothing to do with them, and would attack them. This explains much of his behavior, I'm sure of it!
The family we got him from seemed also very trashy. We like to think we rescued him from them.
My Stella's mom was rescued by a friend shortly before she had puppies, so I met her mom and all her siblings. I'm still in touch with her mom's owner, so I get updates on her mom. Plus he regularly checks in on all the pups, so I find out about all of them!
Axle's mom died giving birth to the puppies, so they were immediately taken to the shelter to be taken care of by foster families and eventually a surrogate mother (who we never got to meet). We luckily did get to meet his foster family though, who later adopted his sister.
I took Newton from a family friend who purchased him from a pet store (*shudders*), we unfortunatly never did get to meet his family.
My brother and his friends found a cat whom they called Roger. They let her stay in the back of our building and in the basement in a box. She gave birth. We decided to give the cats away. One of them we kept after a month because no one else could take him. So Roger was kinda our pet before him.
