Top Dog: Banana Joe Wins Westminster

Feb 13 2013 - 8:45am

Banana Joe, an Affenpinscher, took the best of show prize at the Westminster [1] Kennel Club dog show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. His handler, Ernesto Lara, calls the 5-year-old little dog "Joey," but there's another nickname for the fuzzy fella: "monkey dog." Affenpinschers are an older toy breed from Germany known for their, well, monkey-like faces. They aren't extremely popular in the US, but maybe they will be now? After a successful stint in Europe, the award-winning pooch — with personality to boot — took the States by storm and was a big crowd-pleaser last year at Westminster. Now after earning his best in show title, Banana Joe will put up his paws and enjoy a relaxing retirement in the Netherlands, where he was born and bred. See the adorable pics of the top dog now!
