Happy New Year! On the lunar calendar, today is the first day of the year 4709 and the start of Spring. The day also signifies the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, one of 12 animal symbols designated to each consecutive year. It's said that each person assumes characteristics of the animal from the year in which he or she is born, so we've rounded up the major traits of each Chinese zodiac creature. Maybe you'll learn a little more about yourself on this day of reflection and celebration!
When it comes to coexisting with pets, sometimes it isn't clear who rules the roost. Even in no-pets-on-furniture homes, our furry friends eventually crowd us out of our beds and claim the couch during The Bachelor because nothing is off-limits when the sleepies hit or when they just need a better vantage point from which to supervise the household. We could get mad . . . or we could just sit back and check out some pics of the cutest usurpers (sorry, you'll need to find your own chair).
Heading to Philly? This Spring is a great time to check out the city — especially with Virgin America launching its low-fare, high-frills daily nonstop flights from LAX and SFO to PHL as of April 2012.
Heading to Philly? This Spring is a great time to check out the city — especially with Virgin America launching its low-fare, high-frills daily nonstop flights from LAX and SFO to PHL as of April 2012. Known for its tricked-out new planes, touch-screen entertainment, and amenities like fleet-wide WiFi, the airline has created a cult-like following on the coasts. And the airline's in-flight entertainment does credit to its California roots — with an iPad-like seatback touchscreen for flyers with 35 films, live TV, Google Maps, video games, seat-to-seat chat, music videos, a 3,000-song library, an on-demand menu, and more.
To mark the quickly growing airline's Philly launch, Virgin America first shared the news with its social media fans via a video that spotted the beloved and mysterious "Greenman" from the hit FX television show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia near a Virgin America aircraft. In addition to grabbing those super-low fares to Philly, visitors to the airline's Facebook page can enter for a chance to win round-trip flights and the ultimate It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan pack, consisting of seasons 1-6 DVDs, a Paddy's Pub t-shirt, the official board game, and a guide to the characters' favorite haunts. Oh, and of course, you can check out It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia en route at 35,000 feet on Virgin America.
Brrrrr, is it snowing where you are? Brush up on these tips to help pups stay warm and safe this season as well as some fun, indoor activities when the chill becomes too much for either of you to take.
Whee!! Forget flying. With a jar lid, a sloped roof, and a light dusting of snow, this bird has found the next big thing in extreme sports: crowboarding! No word on whether the IOC has added this event to the next Winter Olympics.
We are officially in love with Uggie, star of The Artist and Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, but he certainly isn't the first red carpet creature feature. Past premieres and award shows have played host to a zoo-full of critters, including dogs, horses, penguins, pigs, and more. We can't get enough of these glitzy pups and glamour pusses so we've rounded up 15 of our other favorite red carpet animal moments of all time.
For one special pup, the world was certainly golden Sunday night. Jack Russell Terrier Uggie, canine star of Golden Globe-winning film The Artist, took to the red carpet wearing a bow tie and his dapper tan-and-white fur coat. The film took home three awards, including best comedy or musical, best actor in a comedy or musical, and best original score, but the best performance of the evening went to Uggie's theatrical tricks during arrivals and in the press room, where he achieved hugs and praise from his A-list costars.
Nom, nom, nom. His name might be Nibbles, but we think that may be a misnomer, given the gusto with which this pup slurps his noodles. It brings to mind a certain romantic Disney duo and a delicious plate of spaghetti and meatballs, but Nibbles (or Nom-bles, as we think he should be called) may just outshine his cartoon predecessors!
While we give the cuteness factor a perfect 10, pups who'd like their own pasta dinners should note that some of the ingredients in tomato sauce (onions, tomatoes, oils, etc.) can upset a poochy tummy, so it's best to stick to plain, cooked noodles (and perhaps an ear scratch to make up for the lack of condiments).
