One way to help tame the bustle of the school- and workweek is to prepare snacks ahead of time. These are some family snack-time favorites that are both wholesome and taste as good on Friday as they did on Monday.
Hummus Making a big batch of hummus is as simple as throwing all the ingredients in the food processor and giving it a whirl. Chop up some veggies for dipping, or spread it on toast or pita bread.
Hard-boiled eggs Everyone has a method they swear by, and mine is to use a handy egg timer — it gets it right every time. We eat this protein-rich snack with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. A squirt of ketchup or hot sauce would be a nice addition, too.
Frozen banana bites This healthy, sweet treat takes less time to make than you might think, and they store beautifully in the freezer.
Basic olive oil granola Homemade granola keeps well in the pantry or in the fridge, and its crunch makes it a satisfying snack. Eat it with yogurt, a splash of cold milk, or straight out of the container.
Cheese cubes with fruit (See recipe in video.) Simply chop up firm or semifirm cheese (we love cheddar, Gouda, and swiss) on Sunday and store in Ziploc® Brand bags to eat throughout the week with berries, grapes, or dried fruit.
Banana muffins Banana bread has the special quality of actually improving in flavor and texture with some time on the counter. Make it into muffins for easy portioning and even individual freezing.

Last summer, a photo of a man cradling his elderly dog in Lake Superior pierced the hearts of millions. Schoep, a shepherd mix who turned 20 on June 15, passed away on Wednesday, but his image will remain a lasting tribute to the deep and loving bond that can run between humans and their canine companions. Owner John Unger posted a brief Facebook statement on Thursday, saying, "I breathe but I can't catch my breath...Schoep passed yesterday."

Unger adopted Schoep, named after a popular Wisconsin brand of ice cream, when he was 8 months old. He told the Daily Mail that the puppy was huddled in the back of his cage and showed signs of abuse. Slowly, Unger and his then-fiancée worked to gain the pup's trust and help build his confidence. Unger's relationship with the dog was mutually giving from the start: When Unger's girlfriend left him, he said he plunged into a suicidal depression, and the pup pulled him out. "To be honest with you, I don't think I'd be here if I didn't have Schoep with me," he told the Mail. "He just snapped me out of it. I don't know how to explain it...I just want to do whatever I can for this dog because he basically saved my a--."
Who could resist tossing the ball to this happy Rat Terrier not quite ready to call it a day? Summer is all about enjoying long sunny days and warm leisurely nights, which makes this happy pup from Instagram user karinnapalmer our pet of the week. Tossing the ball with your pooch is a great way to have fun together and keep him active, which makes playing a game of catch once the sun goes down a fun Summer evening activity.
Here's what karinnapalmer had to say about her sweet pup:
"A little night time ball action at the dog park."
Looks like it was a beautiful night for a game of catch!

Today is National Monkey Day! Although this holiday technically commemorates the day John Scopes was convicted for teaching evolution in the infamous Monkey Trial ending on July 21, 1925 (bet you didn't know that fact), we decided to use that bit of history to commemorate some silly monkey phrases. Check out cute creatures acting as the saying would imply — "Monkey see, monkey do," after all!
