Howdee Y'all! I'm back from a great trip to Austin, Texas. Austin is my kind of town-the restaurants, the hotels, a gazillion dog parks . . .
Here's the "lowdown" on these outstanding pet friendly hotels:
The Mansion at Judge's Hill is a boutique hotel located in a charming historic section near the University of Texas and in fact the original building was constructed in 1900 as a wedding gift by one of the University Founders. We stayed in the third floor attic bedroom ( antique furnishings plus every modern convenience).
There are no size or weight restrictions for canine guests, 24 hour room service, complimentary pet goodies, fleece bedding and the staff often bring their pooches to work. Mom was able to park right in front of the hotel and there is a large grassy front yard and adjacent park. They even had a current issue of Pet Fido in our room. Mom said the atmosphere of genteel refinement brought out my best behavior (I guess that didn't include my eating half of her omelet when she wasn't looking).
As temperatures begin to warm up for Summer, refreshing and delicious beverages can help us beat the heat. Although 100-percent Florida grapefruit juice is a tasty, nutrient-rich delight all on its own, it also becomes the perfect complement to other foods by adding a unique punch of bold flavor to your favorite everyday recipes. After all, grapefruit is one of the most versatile fruits and juices available, and it can easily fit into every woman’s regimen to help keep her looking and feeling her best.
Try this tangy-sweet Pink Grapefruit Mint Cooler, which is great for relaxing poolside with your girlfriends!
2 cups 100-percent pink Florida grapefruit juice
1 bunch fresh mint, reserve 6 sprigs for garnish
4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups club soda
In a large pitcher, crush mint leaves lightly and add grapefruit juice. Infuse at room temperature for 30 minutes, then add lemon juice. Heat the water until very hot; dissolve sugar in the water to make sugar syrup. Add sugar syrup to the grapefruit mixture to taste and stir well. Fill six tall glasses half full with the mixture, add cubed ice and top with club soda. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs, and enjoy!

Happy Easter! What better way to celebrate this bunny-centric holiday than with this ball of cuteness? This little gal is a dwarf breed of rabbit known as "teddywzerg" in German, according to her owner, but she's very similar to a dwarf lionhead bunny. Lionhead rabbits are such a new breed, they're not even recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders' Association. But something tells me this might be their year! Keep clicking for more furry cuteness.

I've shared doggy dangers lurking in your Easter basket, but I wanted to remind you about a popular holiday flower that should never be brought into a home that includes cats.Easter lilies are one of the most poisonous flowers for kitties. In fact, just one or two leaves or flowers can fatally harm a feline so, even if you think your pet will show no interest in this plant, please take no chances. This lily (along with Tiger, Asiatic, and other varieties) causes depression then vomiting, loss of appetite, and loss in body weight with the first symptoms showing up within 30 minutes . . . and acute renal failure coming at about 48 hours post-ingestion.
While lilies are non-toxic to dogs, horses, and (most likely) lil chicks, please brush up on other poisonous plants and have the ASPCA poison control hotline handy. Don't hesitate to rush any pet you fear has gotten a hold of a dangerous stem or blossom to the doctor immediately!
Reese Witherspoon works very closely with a very large costar in Water For Elephants (opening today!). She tells Ellen what it was like developing a close bond with the elephant and how amazing they are at communicating with humans and with other elephants. Watch her talk about her bonding experience now!
