Going home for the holidays gets a little tricky when you're the parent of a pet of any kind. While some small animals like rabbits, birds, fish, and hamsters are fine on their own for a night or two (assuming you have an auto-feeder set up), larger creatures like cats and dogs require more attention and a sitter or caretaker when you're away.
Of course, if you do decide to take your pet on a plane, train, or automobile make sure you check their rules and regulations before you arrive and purchase special traveling equipment like this rolly pet carrier. You don't want to have unexpected, unhappy surprises . . . and have to turn back at the gate. For domestic travelers, I think this effort is 100 percent worth it – but what about you?

I go to my dad's house, and our family dog lives there. Numik (my doggie, boxer, pit bull and lab bundle of awesomeness) hates cats, so i leave Sadie (my kitty) home.
I make sure to give her tuna and yogurt when i get home from the holidays, so we can have our own little celebration.
1Our new dog and two kitties get their last xmas morning with just my husband and myself this year. Next year a baby will be chasing them all over. So they are getting extra presents this year.
2My little man and I will be driving up to my parents to spend Christmas Eve with them. I wouldn't feel right leaving by himself -- and my mother absolutely adores him, so there is no reason to not bring him!
3Mine will be openign her presents
4B-Bop will be with us opening his presents! We're doing the Christmas thing Sunday with my parents and sister and niece, so that should be crazy with 6 adults an 18 months old a doxie mix and a whippet. I can't wait!
5Unfortunately kitties don't travel well, otherwise they would definitely be going with us. We'll be home on Christmas night, so they'll have to open their presents and stocking then. I bet they can't wait until there are kids in the house. We are going to stop traveling on Christmas Day so the kids can enjoy the whole day with their new stuff, so that's when the kitties will get to have Christmas mornings.
6the pooch is coming with us to visit relatives and the kitty will be having friends come to him to feed him.
7I'm actually foregoing the trip to my grandparents house out of state with my parents this year because my pomeranian isn't welcome! (my grandpa believes that dogs should not be pets and should be used for hunting only.. yea tell me about it!) SO me and barkley will be spending our christmas together at my aunt and uncles house, who are avid animal lovers
8With us at our parents' house. They'll even get a couple gifts.
9They will be by my side, they have presents to open also.
10good for you jenehfur - i'm sure barkley will appreciate it!
11They'll be at home with my husband and I...when we leave to go my parents' house for present-opening and brunch, they will be alone. But my parents only live five minutes away!
12We're staying home this year, but last year Bailey had to spend Christmas at a kennel while we traveled to visit family
Luckily, he loves going there and doesn't want to leave when we pick him up, so we didn't feel too bad!
13By my side
14If I DID have a dog, it would be driving with me to San Diego from San Fran.
15My dog Ella was born on Christmas, so she gets twice the presents
16My baby, Ginger, get presents and has her own stocking. And, every year, she gets a few mini Slim Jims- her fave! Much love.
