Every January, the American Kennel Club releases an ordered list of the top 10 most popular dog breeds in the country based on the number of those dogs registered during the previous year. Before the results from 2007 are released, which breed to you think will reign supreme? I've listed the most popular dogs of 2006 below (in alphabetical order), so choose the one you think was the most common!

Blue Wax
Issa
Paul & Joe
I would think a Lab. People love their labs. I instead love my mix breeds
1I chose Golden Retrievers..since I heard they are the least likely to bite. Chows..I heard are the most likely to bite. I can't remember where I heard that...just thought I would share.
Jess, I love mix breeds, too. Actually, I love all dogs.
2I went yorkie
3I picked Lab. I would never get one (too big for me), but I know a ton of people that have them.
I have a poodle/bearded collie mix.(we're guessing...he was a rescue.) i am biased, but i swear he's one of the most adorable dogs i've ever seen. people have pulled their cars to the side of the road to ask what kind of dog he is.
i love my pup!
4i have a black mini schnauzer so i chose that breed but im pretty sure they are not the MOST popular.
5I've actually read that Labs and retrievers bit more than people think. I think they can be really loyal dogs and aren't always open to new "intruders" on their turf. Of course plenty of them are loving awesome dogs
6i voted for the lab, i once had a lab...but i live in AUS. but she was absoutly gorgeous, foever will i love labs because of her. sadly she passed away last yr... cry!
7I vote pugs!
8i dont know about akc registered dogs (can't remember where race dogs are registered), but i sure love my rescued greyhound!!!!
9I love my yorkies!
10I want a golden... i've got a pug and a sh*t tzu so far..
11i love my basset hound!
12All of them are great. I voted lab.
I have a lab/golden cross, and she is terrific.
I also have a little pembroke welsh
corgi, but that breed didn't make the list. They're awesome companions too.
13I have a golden and he is really the best! My old golden who died three years ago was much more mellow and Bex is a little crazy, but he is only one. He is sooo lovable and loyal and funny!
14Definitely labs. People always seem to have them.
15I love my pit bull!!! Of course it would never be on the favorite list thanks to the poor publicity they get and even more thanks to that douchebag Michael Vick. But my dog is the most loyal, friendly, energetic, funny, loving dog and he gets along really well with my cat! Seriously if you ever have a chance to rescue a pit bull it is the most rewarding thing. They just have a bad rep.
16I have a min. schnauzer and love him to death. They are really good pets and they don't shed. He is great with my grandchildren. They do really bark alot. Mine is unusual because he wasn't born into a litter, but was a single pup birth. Thus, he has been a bit of a challenge. With no puppy socialization from the beginning, we have been to numerous training classes and even had a trainer to the house. It has all been worth it though and he has turned into a wonderful pet with only a few bad habits we're still trying to work on.
17i think lab too, my mom has two and they are great! but i have a new puggle puppy so im a bit biased now, lol!
18beagle beagle beagle!!!!
C'mon its Snoopy!!!!!
19It has been a lab for like 5 or so years now. I have one and they are great dogs. I would say Goldens are number 2.
20I think it's either Golden Retrievers or Labs but I went with retrievers becuase that's what I have.
21I love Goldens, but went with Labs, as everyone in this area seems to own one.
22Everyone loves labs... I think they win every year.
I myself am partial to beagles.
23I think it's the lab since it's been reigning supreme for quite a few years once it took the lead from the cocker spaniel.
As for biting - whatever dog is the most owned dog is the breed most likely to bite. They take the statistics from how many of that breed is out there and how many of that breed has bitten. Since the most popular breed is most popular for that reason, there are a higher amount of bites because of the sheer number. When cocker spaniels were the #1 dog, they were the #1 biters. I know a ton of vets who would prefer working with a chow over a cocker spaniel because they have had more bad experiences with the spaniel since they've seen more in the practice. Right now, technically, labradors have the highest bite rate since they're the number one breed. It has nothing to do with the regular temperment - it has to do with more of the dogs going into bad hands and turning out mean.
24corgeltie.. my dog is a corgie sheltie mix... and the cutest fellow eveh!
25I voted for retreiver, but I am head-over-heels in love with English and French bulldogs. They are so ugly, it makes them cute!
26Hmmm...always overlooked; the loveable, loyal IRISH WOLFHOUND!!
27I was torn between Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever...I went with Lab though.
It seems like everyone has a lab!
28Labs and golden retrievers seem to be the most popular. They're not my favorites, though, I don't like big dogs.
29I would say labs BUUUUUUUTTTTTT I have the world's best dog in the whole world and he is a rescued doxie mix...
30i love beagles, they are just so sweet i get cavities thinking about them.
31Either the Golden or Lab, but I need to see a pic. I'm not all that good with knowing all the breeds.
32I like yorkies, but i know retrievers are good dogs all around.
33I read once that the most popular breeds never win the top prize at the big dog shows. For example, German Shepherds haven't won a Best in Show in 20-odd years. I don't know what that means, but it's one of those odd facts that stay with you.
34Mix breeds are just silly looking! For example my Beagle/Basset Hound mix. He has a tiny beagle head and a HUGE Basset body!
Hahaha. I think Corgis are the cutest though.
35I love dogs and those are all great breeds but my dog is a mix (that doesn't include any of the listed above breeds) and she is so smart that sometimes it shocks me.
36People LOVE labs
37where the #&@*& is the jack russell?!
38We have two big ol' 90 pound labs at home and although the dog hair is a little crazy at times...they are the sweetest dogs!! Sidney will climb right up on your lab and cuddle...she thinks she's a lap dog! ha! I love the labs!
39I voted for Labs. Everyone I know owns an obese Lab, but that might be because I live in Maine. They're well suited for this area and most of them seem remarkably chill, it could just be that they're overweight and lack the energy. When I'm out with our dog (a young Boxer) they're always a big overwhelmed by her energy.
40Labs! I have 2, and they are the best dogs ever! I'd recommend to anyone to get a Lab. They are so loving and smart. Perfect companions!
41I don't know where they get these bite statistics. I've had 3 Labs, still have 2, and they have never bitten anyone. They might scare you with their bark, but they've never bitten anyone. You can literally take their food away from them while they're eating and they won't do anything but growl. Our oldest one, Bowzer will kinda gnaw on you if you put your hand in his mouth... People should not put them in the same catergory as Pit Bulls. I will never understand that! People try to say it's ok for them to have Pits because Labs are supposed to be biters too, but Labs are not BRED for fighting. If you have kids, you should not have a Pit. No matter how sweet they are, they can always turn on you, and if they do, expect a trip to the hospital at the least. I've seen these stories about people's children being mauled by their family Pit, who was always so sweet, and can't help but say "Duh!"
42here's a little insight to the biting dog debate. i work with paramedics, so they see a lot of dog bites, and this is what they told me about this.
right now, labs bite more than other breeds. one reason was mentioned before, there are more labs than other breeds. also, SOME (note i said some, so i don't want all the lab owners jumping on my case) some lab owners believe that since they have a "good" dog like a lab, they don't train them as well as they would a "bad" dog. poorly trained dogs are more likely to hurt somebody than any other dog.
HOWEVER, when a lab bites, it is not nearly as severe than nit a pit bull bites. pit bulls lock their jaws, making the bite so much worse, and sometimes even deadly.
moral of the story, ANY dog can bite if not trained correctly, so make sure your doggie knows how to behave, and you shouldn't have a problem. don't assume that just because you have a wonderful lab, if it is provoked or treated the wrong way, it may bite if not trained. and PLEASE do not buy a dog like a pit bull or rottie if you do not have the time to train it.
ok, end of rant.
43Where the F are Shelties??!?!
44Labs are sweet but I can't handle their shedding!! GRODY!!
45I voted for lab but my fave out of the group was the german shepherd. But my favorite dog is the alaskan malamute.
46i dont like schnauzers and not too fond of shih tzus either. A neighbor one time had a sh*t tzu along with a bunch of other yipee dogs and every morning at 6:30ish he would running across the street to sit on our doorstep and bark.
47Here is my new baby - Little Little Little Lenny. He likes to chew wires and hump legs. I Love my yellow Lab to PIECES!!
48I love my lab but I also love my new puppy which is a bichon frise he is like a lab in a bichon body!!1
49I love my dog and I voted for lab
