While it's generally a good idea to get a big tank to give fish plenty of room to swim about, some species like the Betta need less water than others. The minimum amount of recommended water for these colorful creatures is one-gallon-per-one-inch of fish. Keep in mind that, if you are keeping your Betta in a small tank or bowl (especially one without a tank or filter), you will need to change the water every few days while adjusting it to room temperature before adding fish. 6yes, it is true that betas CAN survive in low oxygen and in a small space, but putting them in these small spaces is HORRIBLE!
7betas, naturally, have a HUGE territory (that is why you cannot put 2 betas together) and should be given a LARGE tank. they can easily go in with all your other fish. so be nice and be right and NOT DO THIS, even though I will admit that it is adorable. just not right.

8There is a misconception among people about what Betas need to live a happy life. Realistically, they should be in a tank with filters and everything just like any other fish. Even though in the wild they live in puddles, they are able to move and the puddles are constantly getting new water through rain. People and pet stores keep betas in the smallest, cramped containers. It is really awful treatment.

I have a betta, he lives in a 5 gallon, filtered and heated tank. He's VERY happy to be out of the plastic cup I purchased him in. If its possible to spoil a fish, he's definitely spoiled!
