There's nothing wrong with decking your halls, but make sure to decorate high out of pet's reach! In a home with furry family members, don't hang candy canes, popcorn, berries, or other food items on your tree, and save those nuts and candies (especially chocolates) in the cabinets. While you're busy cooking up dinner, or sipping eggnog, pets could be up on the table devouring your sitting out snacks!
Most animals have an amazing ability to find their ways onto and into things they shouldn't be messing with – remember, if they can smell when you're eating, they can likely sniff out food in presents, too. Make sure Santa comes right before it's gift-opening time so nosy pets don't get any extra time to scratch-and-sniff their gifts!

ha. max smells his advent calendar everyday! i have put it up on a kitchen counter, out of his reach. its the cutest thing, tho. he got a bunch of turkey at thanksgiving, but yeah, we make sure to keep poisonous stuff away from him..chocolates etc.
1My cat literally climbs my tree every night that I go to bed. She's also been unwrapping the presents -_- There's not even any food in the tree!
2B-Bop is kind of a popcorn fanatic. He'll do ANYTHING for the stuff. so that's his holiday treat (the 94% fat free kind). That way if someone wants to give him some of their food, it's better than candy.
3Every year, our relatives send my mom her favorite chocolate. It's really expensive, and we can't get it here. Anyways, we never open boxes that are sent to us until a few days before Christmas, but every year, our dog eats partially through the box to steal chocolates. It's actually pretty funny to watch because shes a shihtzu and and doesn't have all her teeth... Our cats do the same thing if someone sends them catnip.
4We don't have any popcorn or edible items on the tree, but if our greyhound feels that she isn't getting enough attention, she'll grab one of the wooden or cloth ornaments off the tree and start nibbling at it. Very frustrating! I've considered spraying some of them with bitter apple, but I don't know if it's worth it or even safe for the fabric/tree.
5yeah, we don't hang food stuff on our tree, but it doesn't really matter. the kitties and puppy both are OBSESSED with it!
6We had to start getting smaller trees, and setting them on the table.
7Brody drinks all the water from the trees bowl!
He thinks it's his water dish!
