Many cat lovers in Japan go to Cat Cafe Calico to get their kitty fix. It has 14 furry residents that visitors can come play with for just $7 an hour or under $20 for three! This café is one of many to recently pop up in Japan where nonpet owners, or just animal lovers, can come for pet QT — around 70 people show up each weekday and 150 on Saturdays and Sundays to do just that. Owning kitties in Japan is very difficult because of tight spaces and strict housing regulations – in fact, the abandoned pet situation in the country is so dire that about 240,000 unadopted cats and 160,000 dogs are killed in Japan each year.
In the US, many humane societies and privately-owned animal shelters welcome visitors to come in and pet the cats or walk the dogs for free! I like stopping by San Francisco's Pets Unlimited to give some extra attention to the poochies and kitties up for adoption there . . . it's a great way to brighten up both our days!

Wow, that is odd. But I guess it must appeal to some people!
1that's really sad that so many poor animals die each year. But I bet those animals in the cafe are SPOILED haha
2Why not just get a pet cat?
3That is such a cute cat... I wanna pet it!!!
4My Rocky got neutered today, he looks just like that one.!
5I read about this place. You can drink tea while playing with the kitties. I love this idea, especially when there are strict housing laws. Oh and my kitty has a button vest tummy just like this kitty. I love it!
6I think this is really sad
7That's so cute that there is a pet-a-kitty cafe, sad that they kill so many animals. That's horrible!
8PinkABoo, you totally didn't read the entire post did you? It says in Japan its hard to keep a cat in your home due to housing regulations and small spaces. Read.
9If you can't have a cat, this sounds like the place to go to!
