"Dirt" cake was one of my favorites as a child but, let's be honest, the Oreo cookie crumbles and gummy worms still didn't make it that realistic.
That's not the case here with my friend Samantha's kitty litter cake. It looks so believable, I have trouble ignoring the unsavory appearance. However, it's actually quite delicious, and makes a nice cake for a true cat lover... if they can get past the looks that is!

In addition to measuring cups, bowls, pans, and a mixer/food processor, you'll need:
1 German chocolate cake mix, prepared
1 white cake mix, prepared
2 large packages vanilla instant pudding mix, prepared
1 large package vanilla sandwich cookies
Green food coloring
1 small package Tootsie Rolls
1 new kitty litter pan
1 new plastic kitty litter pan liner
1 new pooper scooper
- Prepare both cake mixes according to package instructions, and let cool.
- Prepare both packages of pudding according to package instructions, and chill in refrigerator.
- Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches into food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but 1/4 cup.
- Add a few drops green food coloring to the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, and mix until completely colored.
- When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl.
- Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Gently mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it – you don't want it too soggy.
- Line a new, clean kitty litter box. Put the cake/pudding/cookie mixture into the litter box.
- Put three unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with three more unwrapped Tootsie Rolls bury them in the mixture.
- Sprinkle the other half of white cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly on top of everything -- this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.
- Heat three more unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Place remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs.
- Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around for a truly disgusting effect!

That is so gross and awesome, I just love it!

a little TOO realistic for me. I could never eat it even though I know it's safe. I'd be
thinking about cleaning out the litter box while eating it and I might just
all over.
2Eh...no thanks.
3It is so gross but I love it!
4i like it.. but i dunno that i would be able to eat it! haha
5That look so gross, but funny!
6EWW!
7Oh My! It is very creative..i just don't know if I would be able to eat it either. ha ha.
8That looks so disgusting...I don't think I could bring myself to even try a bite of it.
9I blogged about this ages ago.
It's super yummy and funny.
My sis works at a vet clinic and people there make this for each employees birthday.
10I don't think I could ever eat this. Why would someone do this to a cake.
11only for a cat lover! I'm sure it's delicious
12gross. i dont know if i could bring myself to eat that... maybe if someone cut out a piece for me...
13I have made this before, its so much fun to shape the tootsie rolls into turds.
14oh my god that's gross. haha
15Oh wow, it's so icky I almost can't look at it, but I'm so intrigued that I want to make it myself for my coworkers (I work at an animal supply store!) because they would find it hilarious!
16OMG, I dont think I could brign myself to eat that, it looks so freakin real! YUCK!!!
17
I could never eat something that looked like poo. On a side note, I have that cat box in
pink.
18um, i don't think i could eat it, but i'm impressed with it's realistic quality....
19No, thank you.
20DO NOT WANT.
21haha i think i'd have to mix it up before i could eat it !!
22Way too realistic!
23So funny!
24Um. I dont think I could eat this one.
.
25no thank you!
26Ewwwwww, what a neat and realistic idea, but it looks to gross to eat!
27aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak
28I'm going to have to pass.
29I had one of these at a party. They are actually really good specially when served with ice cream.
30OMG it makes me wanna vomit!
31turd is a funny word.
32Ummmm, no. I just couldn't eat it. It's too realistic looking, especially in the plastic baggie.
33But...why?!
34I honestly don't think I could get past how it looks. lol
35I've made this cake before. The only problem with bringing it to a party is that no one wants to eat it if there's other food. It's absolutely delicious, but it's hard to get past the appearance.
36Very creative, but under no circumstances would I be able to bring myself to eat it...
37I really admire all the small details in this masterpiece - especially the little stray turd hanging over the corner...
38Ewww...the idea is just too disgusting for me.
39POO! Too yucky for me, but my Molly would gulp it down!!
40why?
41sooooooo bad.
makes me want to puke.
I love cats but that is pretty gross. I don't want to associate cleaning a dirty stinky cat box to a delicious cake
42I'm just laughing my head off at this thread!
I am wondering how something so absolutely
disgusting can be so fun at the same time? I really don't think I could get past the looks of it especially since I have that exact same litter box and pooper scooper!
43I am sure it tastes good, but I wouldn't be able to eat that!
44Ewww....the actually put it in a kitty litter pan?
I know it is new (obviously) but the
whole concept of this is grody to the max.
45hey I have seen this before
46I am sure it's delicious....but no thank you. I have a hard time picturing myself taking a bite out of that tray. Eeeww!
47my friend made me that cake for my birthday 2 years ago. it was soooo good. the fact that when i got there and through dinner it was sitting on the floor was even better. when it was time for cake, she just picked it up and placed it in front of me. Hahaha. But it is really good!!!
48it is delicious! i have made it many times, and it's a huge hit at work gatherings. it is seriously moist and yummy, and i'm actually surprised at how good it is every time that i make it.
49omg that looks too gross for me to even imagine eating it
