I looooove bunnies. This precious duo came out for Santa Barbara's Bunny Festival last weekend. Lucky rabbits – there were carrot eating contests, pampering massages at "Spa Bunne," and even the Bunny Olympics where agility trained rabbits did hurdles, obstacle courses, and even played basketball! I still haven't worked out in my head how a bunny could play anything resembling basketball but, since I wasn't able to make it, I'll take their word for it.
The event is put on by Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (B.U.N.S.), a crucial volunteer organization to help abandoned rabbits. So many people adopt baby rabbits then realize they don't have the patience to care for them once they grow up. As when choosing any pet, make sure you have enough energy to dedicate to their needs.
The problem with abandoned bunnies has gotten so serious in some cities (San Francisco, included) that there are city ordinances prohibiting the sale of rabbits. Unless you have the space and time to dedicate, be like me and do your bunny admiring from afar!

Oh my God, I love bunnies...not as much as cats, but they are almost as cute.
Love the angora ones the most...the're like little balls of fluff!
1What people don't realize is that a rabbit can live 10+ years. It's no longer acceptable to keep them in a hutch outside either. At our shelter we only adopt out spayed and neutered animals, so all bunnies are altered before leaving our care. Other than the overpopulaiton, rabbits can be extrememly great pets to have. They can be box trained, and love to play with you!
2I want one so badly but my boyfriend said no. Truthfully we don't really have the space for one so i can see where he is comign from. But, if we move into a house we are SO getting a bunny...
3while cute, bunnies arent "pets" in my opinion. I only raised them to eat them.
4We have a little bunny in our family, Hunna Bunna is owned by a sibling.
5They are super cute, but people need to realize what a big responsibility they can be. They also don't necessarily make the best pets for children either as most breeds require gentle handling, a lot of patience, and can be very easily spooked.
6WooHoo! Santa barbara! I lived there for quite a few years and they always have awesome animal friendly stuff!
7I love bunnies, but don't think I'd ever get one.
I'd ♥ a bun-bun of my own, but they require too much time and patience that I just don't have. Sigh. Even my cats are too much to handle sometimes.
8Bunnies are great pets. I have one (see: Jasper).
If you are in the Toronto area, an alternate site for adopting bunnies is:

YAYS!
9Aw cute little
10The bun on the right has great eye-liner! It's Cleo-rabbit-tra! Heh heh.
11I live in Santa Barbara right now.....how did I not know about this????
12I have two bunnies, I love them!
Please don't eat rabbits...this is like me saying I want to eat your dog, or cat, or whatever pet brought you to this board!
They are a ton of responsibility, I definitely didn't realize that when I bought my first one at a pet store, but I loved him so much I later adopted another and now I volunteer at a rescue in SoCal.
I think they are good for people who would like dogs, but they require just the slightest bit less attention (meaning they don't need to be walked every 4 hours). Plus they are especially active around 6 am and the evening, so they are perfect for working people. However, I still try to let mine out for four hours most nights, which is obviously a huge time commitment. And they destroy a lot of stuff.
Sorry to sound like a PSA, I am just so excited petsugar featured bunnies! These ones are soo cute!
13We always had bunnies when I was a kid.....
14Awwww, bunny love!!! My sisters Bunny "Bun" is best friends with my parents dog "Mr. Beaumont" it has to be the cutest thing ever. They deff. love each other!
15JessNess, the bunny festival was on Sun at the sunken gardens.
16Also if you're in the SB area with a bunny, B.U.N.S. offers "basic bunny" which is like a bunny training course, they talk about litter box training, health, nail clipping. It's free and pretty informative I hear
I don't have pet rabbit, but I have an Eastern Cottontail rabbit that visits my backyard. I've named him Mr. Nibbles (corny, I know). I'm not sure if he even is a "Mr." I just know he is really sweet.
17how cute. I need a farm so I can have more animals. I love bunnys. I had a rabbit when I was little named Thumper.
18@ my brother's university there's an overpopulation of bunny's around campus.
there's actually a major rabbit control problem ..
19i've never had bunnies for pets. but my younger cousin did, growing up. and they're so cute.
20i am so happy petsugar wrote something about bunnies! i have 2 and they truly are apart of my family. The oldest just turned 9 and the other one just turned a year. Rabbits take a lot of attention and ARE NOT a good choice for children.
21the white one is very pretty
22I had a bunny as a kid. I miss her.
23We had a farm when I was growing up, and we raised bunnies as part of it. I had several growing up. They're really smart animals!
