About seven percent of dog owners plan to purchase a Halloween costume for their pet this year, up from four percent in 2004, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association's annual pet owners survey. The pet costume business is booming, but that doesn't mean a costume is necessary – or right – for every pet.
Consider the seasonal options – try a bandana, a fancy Halloween collar and leash, or a simple headpiece. Check out my fave PetMarked costume alternatives below!

I think a little something to dress up a pet for a holiday is okay but I don't think full body costumes are okay for a pet.
You may think it's cute but I'm sure it's not all too comfy for them.
1Couldn't agree more, Aimee...keep it simple or don't do it at all. Like you said, I'm sure they hate it when they're squeezed into some silly full body costume.
2I like the crazy green wig. Especially on that wide-eyed chihuahua
3Something simple, yeah.
4It's great to share the halloween fun with your best friend, especily when they are with you all the time, but I never want them to feel uncomfortable. A few years ago, I made a bell collar like you see on Fuu Dog statues for my pekingese Winston. It was very simple, comfy and easy to wear. He looked liked a real little Fuu dog too. The only trouble we had was when halloween was over he didnt want to take it off!
I'm thinking of getting Tulip a little collar that looks like a pearl necklace and mabey comfy doggy sweater and go together as the (tiny) wolf-woman.
5Bodhi would look really cute with wings. but Sully would probably pull them off. stinker!
6Vivi'd throw a fit. She's a rescue dog.
7i like the simple ones that are just decorated leashes etc.
8I use bandanas year round, its the easiest and cutest and I am sure my pup prefers it. You can also make a cape out of an old shirt, Ive done Harley Davidson one!
9Yeaaaa....I have a kitty and I don't think she would let me get away with putting any of those on!!!
10My beast does not fit into any costumes, there is not much available for the giant breeds. But I did buy devil horns to put on him last year.
11I think they can be funny and cute on some but my dog would neeeever stand for it, especially anything on his head.
12my sister-in-law got married recently and her dog (the ring bearer) wore something very very similiar to the Halloween Smoocher Collar!
13I love the bat wings.
14I love bandanas all year round and the superman leash is so cute!
15My dog is a rescue dog and she LOVEEEEEES wearing outfits! This year she's going to be a pumpkin! =]
16I'm totally getting my dog the skulls tie! She's a Chinese Crested and will love showing the neighborhood kids how much of a badass she is!
17I got the bat wings for my black chihuahua. He looks so hilarious & cute in them.
The green wig looks awesome too.
18lol omg mikediesel that sounds adorable!
19I looooove pets in costumes its hilarious
My dog has been a pirate and a chicken so far. I wanted to dress her up as a sailor this year, but I can't seem to find a costume. For a booming business, it sure is hard to find costumes that aren't like a fairy or a hot-dog (har har).
20I work at a dog grooming shop and we send many of our dogs home with bandannas made by simply cutting fabric into large triangles with pinking shears. It's a great, inexpensive way to "dress up" your pooch for any occasion, and even the dogs who refuse to wear clothes will usually tolerate these.
Also, Lupine Collars has a really cute collar/harness/leash pattern called "Bling Bones" that is perfect for Halloween. The best part: it's guaranteed for life, even if the dog chews it apart!
21Aw, the bat costume is adorable. I have a cat but I don't think she'd hold still long enough for me to dress her up.
