Coming up with a name that's just right is a tough process! Some of us one day dream of owning a pet with a particular moniker while others wait until we meet an animal before starting the naming process. I planned on calling North "Piper" until I picked him up and decided that simply didn't fit and a community member enlisted our help to come up with a name for this precious face — how did the process work for you?

I had a couple names in mind, and chose the one that fit her the best.
1I adopted from a shelter and just kept the name they had given my kitten.
2My dog came from a shelter with his name- Max- which is really generic but not embarrassing. My cat on the other hand, came with the name Snowball (it's a male, btw) so we shortened it to Nowy since he had been called Snowy. I felt too embarrassed to tell people that my cat's name was Snowball.
3We did both. I always knew I wanted a Cavalier name Stella and when I finally got her the name fit her really well. But with the other two girls we waited till we had them for a few days before we decided on names.
4Both. Sadie Grace got her name after...and the second part came a day or two after I got her. My kitty's name was Petit Fille (little girl in French, I'm in New Orleans), and I knew I wanted to call her Emma Jane. Good little Southern girls with two names!
5Before I rescued the Persian you see in my avi, I learned that his previous owners had named him AVR...pronounced by the three individual letters, so, Aye-Vee-Are. He was named after a concrete company...Apple Valley Redi Mix. WTF?!? I have always loved the name "Oliver," and since this wasn't a huge phonetic jump from his original name (but so very much more dignified!) that is what he came to be known. It turned out to be the perfect name for him, as one of the meanings of the name Oliver is "peaceful."
