You may think the statement "the dog ate my homework" is a well-worn cliché used only by fictional children in books or movies. Well, think again, as not one but two recent news stories feature dogs enjoying some paper goodies.
Case one, a woman (now being charged with identity theft and forgery) who claimed her dog got into her purse and ate all her personal checks . . . so she helped herself to her ex's account. Case two, a teenage boy whose one-year-old Golden Retriever chewed a corner of a passport, obscuring some numbers and causing an airport fiasco before his class trip to Peru.
Weigh in on both these cases and let me know if your furry friends love to chomp on any papers as well in the comments below.

my cat Allie likes to bite chunks of toilet paper off the roll. she's done this for years and it's still hilarious to see little bite marks on the edges of the tp!
1My Boston Terrier, Delilah likes to chew paper, but will really only do it if there is paper (or tissues, or cardboard boxes, etc) lying around on the floor.
2My dog likes to chew on everything!!!
3He use to steal paper from the computer room and scatter them all around the backyard.
My dog will chew, shred and make confettis only out of paper when she's alone. For some reason, that's her way to show me her frustration. Otherwise, paper is of no interest to her.
4My dog loved to rip apart wrapping paper that had been balled up. Only wrapping paper though, not regular paper balled up. She used to toss it, snatch it from the air, plant her front paws on it and use her front teeth to take it to shreds.
Then she looked for more,lol.
5My kitten chews anything made of paper...magazines, kleenex boxes, empty toilet paper rolls, paper bags, books. With my last cat it was plastic, which I could deal with. This paper things drives me insane.
6One of my cats tears the corners and edges of anything paper when she wants attention; magazines, books, envelopes, etc. From what I can see, she'll tea little bits off and try spit them out but sometimes she accidentally swallows. Which is fine when she sticks to paper, but not so much when she gets it in her head to tear up kitchen foil.
7My dog will run down the stairs when he hears you blowing your nose, jump into your lap & try to steal your Kleenex & eat it! He also ate a paper plate one time when I didn't pick it up quickly enough...that was hard on his system! Both of my dogs like to shred cardboard & eat Kleenex. Once I asked my vet if dogs eating paper was bad...he said, 'Only if something important was written on it!'
8My dog LOVED paper products! She sneakily ate kleenex for years, then moved to taking books out of my sister's backpack and even ate money off our coffee table once. Lead stomach for sure.
9I have a yorkie and a Boston terrier they don't chew on anything except toys however when my Boston was a pup she did chew on some furniture!lol! She sticks to her toys and rawhide chews now. Thank goodness because furniture can be pricey!
10We can't leave any of our bills lying around because the cats will eat them!
11not actual paper, but kleenex and paper towels get shredded everywhere on a regular basis... next to underwear, kleenex is oscar's favourite thing to rip apart
12YES! Bexley, our golden, will eat ANY paper, regular paper (like computer paper), books, newspaper, wrapping paper (that he loves--esp. the rolls), cardboard, and like weffie said paper towels, and kleenex. Like Shoecraze sometimes he did it while mad, but sometimes he just loved to tear it to shreds. I was shocked at this because our childhood golden Mac never ate a piece of paper in his entire life (I thought the dog ate my homework was a joke!!!). Once he ate the envelope to a nteflix DVD (and scratched up the whole DVD, we had nothing to send it back in!) Patterson WILL eat paper, but not like Bexley! Just every once in a while!!
RachLA, I can't believe your dog ate money!
13When my older dog was a puppy the only thing he chewed on was our stairs! But my younger dog loved paper, specifically books. He once ate half of a library book that ended up costing $50 to replace!
