Pennies aren't the only lesser-known poison — seems about everyone has heard of chocolate risks but what do you know about your fruits and veggies that are not safe for pets? Test yourself to see what snacks you can share . . . and others you should keep to yourself.

Thanks for the great info! Even though I HATE taking quizzes on the Sugar sites, because they take FOREVER--WAY too many clicks and scrolling--yours are worth it for the valuable information.
1I agree, these quizzes have become way too tedious!
2I give my dog carrots all the time.
Good to know!
3I like the quizzes!
4And I didn't know about tomatoes, is it different when they're cooked or still bad? I know my dog's had pasta sauce a million times, it hasn't hurt him so far but maybe we've just been lucky.
My mom's dog is obsessed with broccoli, we make a good team cos I don't like the stumps so she waits for them and cleans my plate
5Avocados are not entirely toxic to dogs. The fruits are perfectly fine, in fact there's a dog food (Avoderm) that uses the fruits as the basis for its product. (I bought it in a pinch once for the pooch; she normally eats Fromm's or BG, but I couldn't find anything better near my dad's place than a Petsmart. Seriously, Pittsburgh - I tried to find a higher end pet shop, is that really the best you've got?) It's the leaves and pits that are toxic.
The Avoderm site has some info on avocado toxicity: http://www.breeders-choice.com/dog_products/avoderm-natural-and-avocado-...
6Also, my pup loves tomatoes and every vet I've ever asked has said that ripe ones are fine.
7I got all right except tomato.. didn't know that they were toxic.. good to know!
89/10 - missed the broccoli question; my dog eats everything that lands on the floor while my 1 yr old is eating. how am I going to keep this all straight?
btw - ditto on the quiz critique.
9One that wasn't included is macadamia nuts. I was surprised when I first heard this because I feed my dog peanut butter when he gets a pill so I thought any nut would be fine (not that I've ever had the opportunity to give Sonny a macadamia).
10I didn't know about tomatoes either. And I also agree, the quizzes on sugar are a very long process. The answers at the end, all at once would be better.
11Avacado is toxic to dogs? There is a line of pet food called Avoderm that is based on avacado...
I agree... the quizzes on this site are too loooong...
12my vet recommended peaches, nectarines & plums and they are even in a recipe booklet that come with kong...my dog has had quite a few! avocados too!!!
13The last question asked "Peaches?" It didn't ask "Peach Pits?" I knew onions were debatable. I've read varying opinions about zuchinni.
14I read ripe tomatoes are fine while the green ones are poisonous.. Hmm..
15Where do you get this data? it doesn't seem to be based on anything. Sure a cherry pit will contain cyanide, which is why people don't eat them either. You could still feed your dog the cherry without the pit and the dog would be fine.
16Not only do you not post where you get the data, but you make people think the worst in some cases. Sure, the dog can't eat the entire peach, but you could write it clearer whether or not the flesh is dangerous.
The peach pit would be dangerous simply because it may cause choking.
Good to read someone else being objective on here. Yes, it also crossed my mind about the pet choking on the pit. I watch my dogs very closely with rawhide chews. They can be very dangerous & you hardly see warnings about that.
17The Sugar sites in general are not very well researched, so you should definitely double check anything they present as "fact."
188/10 missed the tomato and the peach, but nobody would eat the pit anyways.
19vERY INFORMATIVE INFO, I NEW ABOUT MOST BUT WOULD LIKE TO ADD GRAPES WHICH IS A RAISIN. ALSO ONE OF MY CHIHUAHUA'S ENDED UP IN THE EMERGENCY VET WHEN HE WAS A PUP BECAUSE MY BOYFRIEND GAVE HIM MACADAMIA NUTS. THE VET SET NO NUTS BUT PEANUTS.HE MADE IT OK THANK GOD. AS A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER YOU SHOULD CHECK ANY NEW FOOD OU WANT TO GIVE YOUR PET.
20Got them all right except the last one. I thought the quiz was about the fruits/veggies that were toxic, not the pits contained therein. Bullsh*t!
And yes, the quizzes are crazy tedious.
