My pet-less pal took a trip down to LA last week, and was totally smitten by a certain kitten that was for sale outside of a store. She told me that she hadn't even considered adopting a pet before, but something about that particular cat made her want to put it on the next flight home with her (think Samantha and Baby in the Sex and the City movie). Unfortunately, she didn't take kitty home, now totally regrets her decision, and thinks about "what could have been" every day since. Aww!

I've been known to come close to an adoption breakdown, but I've never had that feeling of regret for not adopting. Besides, I have North at home already! Have you ever come face-to-face with an animal you didn't take home, but later on knew you should have?

yes, evry time i visit a pet stor. my kitty was from a sheltr and was supposd 2 be put down the day aftr my brother got her 4 us
1Well, we are in the process of thinking about getting a second cat. Every time I play with the cats and leave without one, it hurts. BUT, we are being "picky" about this next one. We both want a siamese, but can't find one at the adoption center. I feel bad about this action because it feels odd to discriminate when I love all of them so much...
2Mu husband and I have our hearts set on getting a pair of Maine coon Cat kittens- someday. Right now it wouldn't be fair to adopt because we're barely able to get our bills paid.
3Weep. Weep. Weep.
4My dog was put down this last x-mas due to cancer (lost my first dog due to cancer as well). Right now I'm in the I wanta dog-can't emotionally handle getting another right now phase.
Its a confusing place to be. I see doggies up for adoption all the time and I want to snatch one up, but I know I'm just not ready for another one and it wouldn't be fair to the new pup/dog.
Its hard sometimes.
5Aww Smacks83, sorry for your loss
6I try to avoid looking at pets so that doesn't happen, since I can't handle more than the one dog I have now.
Petsugar - I was confused by your question. When you used the word "adopt," I thought of the shelter where you can adopt an unwanted animal. Wanting to BUY an animal at a pet store doesn't normally make people think of the word "adopt." I would never buy a dog, but would rather adopt. And yes, I have seen dogs at shelters that I've wanted to adopt. (Puppies at pet stores are cute, but I would never buy them when there are great dogs at shelters that desperately need homes.) My dogs have all been adopted!
7Thank you Kristyy- I agree, I actually can't stand it when someone says they adopted a dog from a pet store or breeder. Nothing wrong with it, but don't act like you rescued it.
