I implore EVERYONE with a pet to spay/ neuter! It is SO important and the single most important thing that can be done to control the pet population and prevent unwanted puppies/ kittens.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to your vet, contact your shelter. Ours had "coupons" for $50 spay surgeries.

We didn't have to pay for our dog's spay. It was part of the adoption agreement with the Humane Society that she had to be spayed before we could take her home, so I guess it was included in the adoption fee, which was still really low. She hasn't had any ill effects from the surgery either!

I just want to say to DO YOUR RESEARCH! the shelter in my area has a not so great reputation for their spay/neauters. I know it's Way cheaper then my vet but I'm willing to save up a bit to know that the care she's given is the best. I'm so sick of people saying if you can't afford spay/neuter you can't afford your pet. That's totally not true. I'm just not willing to go the cheap (and in my area, not always safe) way.

I haven't had my puppy neutered yet because he is still so young but once he gets a bit older I will have it done.

Our vet did it at a discount because Lily was a rescue.

My dog has an Optimum Wellness Plan (monthly fee) with the Banfield Hospital (located in a lot of PetsMarts). Since he was registered with the puppy health plan, neutering was included at no additional cost! http://www.banfield.net

Not sure how much my spay/neuter was, but I know there was an additional 40$ charge since my 5 month old decided it was time to go into heat a bit earlier than I anticipated.

Also got round two shots out of the way, microchipping, the puppy maintenance works... ended up being about 340$, a small price to pay to know my baby is safe and taken care of.

We adopted him from a shelter in New Jersey, so it would've been just $60 to neuter Basil in NJ (which is just a quick drive over the bridge from where we live in Philly).

However, it ended up costing us about $800, because only one of Basil's testicles descended. The other testicle was up in his tummy, near his kidneys. So a routine snip-snip with a laser turned into major abdominal surgery.

Zena's past owner had her spayed when she was being adopted by us. We don't know how much it cost but she went to a very good vet. I believe it was included in the $250 fee to adopt her.

Im with manda...it was all part of the Banfield wellness plan...it was like $50 down payment then $25 a month and that included all her puppy shots and stuff

Sadie Grace is a rescue so it was incuded. She had her first shots and was spayed for $80. My vet does do discounts for rescue dogs. I inquired in case I decide to get Sadie a friend!

$40 to get my cat spayed. We have a great low cost spay and neuter clinic in my area. $40 for spays, $50-60 for neuter, and I think they might charge just a little more for very large dogs. Either way, it's under $100 and they have a great reputation.

Everyone should spay and neuter... too many animals get euthanized each year because the pet population is so large.

It was over $500 to get my first dog (2yr old rottie) spayed. Then an additional $4,500 for stapling, major surgery, massive antibiotics and 2 week hospital stay after she managed to scratch out all of her stitches with her back leg.
Second dog (3 yr old mutt) her spaying was included in her adoption fee ($65 total).

BTW: I mentioned how long her incision was to another vet and he couldn't believe that it was almost her whole belly (and should have been only a few little inches). I never went back to that first vet again.

Def that all pets should be spayed and neutered but I pay a little more for the vet.

I didn't have to pay for the procedure itself since its taken care of by my local city council, but since i got her microchipped and a couple of other things that had to be done at the same time, altogether it cost me about NZ$300, so about US$150
