Look out below! This mockingbird is on the attack at the University of Florida and, according to a recent study, she remembers the person in the pic as someone who came too close to her nest a few days before. The study, which had test subjects touching and getting up-close-and-personal to the mockingbird nest, proved that the birds can recall faces since they only attacked the people who actually touched the nest and ignored other passersby! Who knew birds had such good memories!?
I usually have a daily run-in with a pigeon (or two) that come a little too close to my noggin (and one blackbird continues to make news), but I've never been directly attacked by a bird like the poor girl in this pic. Well, unless you count the time I was pooped on by a seagull, but I doubt that was intentional.

In the birds defense I was monitoring them or seeking their nests to map for work. Goshawks, Coopers Hawks, and other raptors can be mean when they want to be. They will send you diving to the ground if they are nesting and think you pose a harm.
1I haven't been the unlucky one being attacked, but I have been witness to a bird dive bombing people as they walked by a certain tree on the street. Probably was protecting a nest.
2My little brother got chased by a peacock when he was really small, it was hilarious!
3I've been pecked and wing-slapped a million times by by own pigeon (she hates it if I clean her cage when there are eggs in the nest) but never out in the street.
My grandmother and I got attacked by a robin last summer. Which is ironic since her last name is Robbins haha
4Yes, on multiple occasions by mean, evil little mockingbirds. They've gone after my dog too. I was actually just on a walk with my husband this afternoon and was sounding the alert every time I spotted a mockingbird. They are vile, hateful birds.
5A seagull stole the fish I was going to feed the dolphins at Sea World. Another seagull store my french fry on the docks. Those suckers have big old talons! Glad it was a fry and not my finger!
6never been attacked unless you count being pooped on ... ;-p
7My husband gets attacked by our purple martins who are nesting for the second time this year, not sure if they're the same ones or not? But anyway they never attack me but always him which is hilarious! Strange but true they definitely know who he is! Btw its the male that attacks and he makes clicking noises, its too funny watching my husband run! Lol!
8I was walking my dog today when a mockingbird started swooping too low near us. The bird was making loud cries, and trying to get at my dog. At one time, it almost got under my dog's belly!! The same thing happened today evening again! twice in a day......must be the same bird..
9I havnt even touched a nest, ever.
Don't know if it counts, but i was nearly knocked off my bike by a Raven once. It flew over a hedge, i just ducked in time
