Barking dogs belonging to neighbors are no fun, but what do you do if the noise's coming from within your own home? Whether your pooch barks or howls for no reason, flips out at little things like the door buzzer, or sporadically sounds his alert throughout the day, how do you make it stop?
North adjusts well with a little refocusing — calling a name, getting his attention, or distracting him elsewhere — but there are still those pooches that have much to say when we leave. We don't want to find ourselves on the receiving end of a complaint, so let's share ways to make the noises stop.

Gasp! We use a spray bottle!
1My dog is relatively quiet, but my friends use a bark collar for their loud dog.
2my parents tried to train their dog by squirting lemon juice in her mouth when she barked. she's trained to be afraid of the lemon juice bottle, but not to stop barking!
3I will go on the porch with them and when people walk by and they start to bark, I say: "No Bark." When they stop barking, I say: "Good NO Bark, Good no bark," and immediately reward them with a treat.
4Ten repetitions and they understand what "no bark" means and a nice reward received. You have to be consistant. When you are in the house and they bark, go out and do the above.
i just tell them "shush" and they stop.
5I yell "hey!" from the window, they see me and stop.
6my dog honestly NEVER barks unless someone is creeping around the house.
7HOWEVER my freaking next door neighbors have 4 large breed dogs and those things are on barking duty 24/7 and it drives me insane.
A stable, excersised dog should not bark excessivly. I have a Pit Bull (one of the most energenic breeds out there) and she is walked everyday and rarely barks.
My dog is really a quiet one and only barks when something special happens. And when I want her to stop, I just say "STOP"! That's it
8When he was a pup he would stop when I told him to but when I left home he would go on and on because we live across from a school/park so there are people and dogs outside all day long (I was informed by the neighbors). I got one of the beeping bark collars. When he barked it emitted a high pitched beep that he didn't like. It worked really well and really quickly and I passed the collar on to my brother for his dog.
9I have 2 dachshunds and they bark SOOOO much! It can drive me crazy but I wouldnt change them for the world. I will have to disagree with the above comment that a well excercised dog won't bark...I take them for a long walk everyday and it doesn't do a thing for their barking. I would love to hear some solutions that have worked on other dogs.
