If you're planning on keeping a tidier home this year, get started right in the linen closet. Behind my closed doors, I've got enough old blankets, sheets and towels to do wondrous things . . . I don't actually do.
Realizing I don't need eight spare towels to dry off a car that I never wash myself, as well as not hosting enough guests back-to-back to require four sets of aerobed bedding, I laundered my spare linens and brought them to my local humane society. Act like me and contact your local shelters to see which items you can let go to animals in need.

Every year the company that my husband works for hosts a 2-3 week towel/blankets collection. Last year I forwarded the details to my co-workers - I ended up with 2 car trunks filled with perfectly good towels and blankets...they need them so much at the shelters!
1That's a great idea Pet. Too bad I don't own enought towels to do that. Hmmm... I'll find something to take, by George. Maybe I'll get a thing together at work like flyingroo does.
2Great excuse to buy new towels!
3Thank you for this awesome post!
4i was thinking about doing this anyway, thanks for the extra push!
5We had tons of old blankets and comforters in a spare closet we were hanging onto for company. When we finally to a good look at them we knew we were never going to use them and they were just taking up lots of space. We filled 2 big green garbage bags with them and took them up to our local humane society. They told us they could really use them. It felt really good to know they were going to be used for the animals to snuggle up in.
6awesome job flyingroo
7good idea! thanks for the suggestion..
8This is great!
I volunteer at an animal shelter and they always need blankets and towels. The ones they like best are ones without buttons, beading, or zippers (some duvet covers have these).
The animals will love you!
