I read it a few years ago, right around the time it first came out. It is probably one of my favorite books b/c it made me laugh out loud and cry at the same time! I will say though, if you're not a pet person, you won't get the book.

I read MOST of it. I read it within a year of putting my previous dog to sleep, and I couldn't make it through the last chapters. I'd start sobbing, it was so real, and so close to the conversations I was having with myself and my dog. I remember so well thinking that Bradley (my dog) would tell me when it was time, just like the author did with Marley. Even now, thinking about it nearly 3 years later, is making me cry.

I loved LOVED the book, it is so true! I wonder how they're going to end the movie, though . . . because it could end up a downer at the end, when the rest of it is about the silly-wonderfulness of big galumphs of dogs.

I do have another big galumph of a dog. He delights me and exasperates me every day, just like Marley

So true, Krae. I refuse to watch or read anything related to animals. Because even if they end up all happy and fuzzy, most of the times, they contain some sad scenes, and I can't bear to watch animals suffering.

I loved this book. Oh, I laughed and I cried, but I loved it. It did make me sad thinking that someday I might have to do the same to my dog though... *sigh*

I'm actually reading his sequel book right now (about growing up in a devout Catholic home). It is too funny.

I don't plan on reading/watching it. I really dislike books about dogs, cats etc. Especially if humans have conversations with them. I guess I'm too much of a realist.

I laughed and cried reading this book, but it was worth the tears (in retrospect -- the day I finished it I probably wouldn't have said that!). I don't think I can handle the illness/death in movie form, though. When I got TOO sad reading the book, I could put it down for awhile!

I just read "Dewey" this weekend - a great true story for cat lovers, but also with a sad/inevitable ending.

The book should had been titled: John Grogan: The worst dog owner or How to make millions trating a dog miserable.
I read the book it was horrible the way these people treated that dog. I could not finish it since I was sooooooooooooo angry. Who ever likes this books does not care about animals at all.

Just like some of you, I laughed and cried (a lot!) reading this book. Love John Grogan's way of relating his life with Marley to the readers.

I'm really excited to see the movie even though the book's ending was really emotional. I love the trailers! And I think a dog's love for us is the most unconditional of all.

Yeah, sexylibrarian, I have no idea what pit is talking about! I love animals and take good care of our dog and cats - I didn't see Marley's owners as bad or neglectful at all.

I read the book and did not like it at all. My apologies if you were offended. But to my opinion letting your dog play with an unknown pit bull, trying to make $ out of your dog, and then trying to get rid of your dog just because you had a baby comes to show how insensitive people can be towards animals.

I loved it. Marley makes my dog look like an angel. I can't wait to see what the movie does with it.

I read it a few years ago. My name is Jennifer, my husband is Jonathan and we got a labrador as our "test" to see if we wanted kids. Everyone told us to read this book about Marley and his owners John and Jenny. Needless to say, it was hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. I'm unsure about the entire casting of the film. Just not the actors I would have picked

I read it. As much as I adore dogs, I wasn't crazy about the book. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
