People snuck them in, but they weren't allowed. Our mascot was a "Roadrunner"... so um, no.

Texas Tech wasn't for the typical dorm rooms, but I had several friends who had cats that lived with them in their dorm rooms.

There were on-campus apartments that allowed dogs but you had to be an upperclassman to live there.

I bought a tiny turtle in Chinatown to stay in the dorm freshman year. I brought it home for the holidays through taxi, plane, shuttle, and finally car wherein I forgot it until the next day, when its entire habitat had turned to ice. He melted and lived on, but I realized pets are not really a convenient part of undergrad life.

Jr. year I lived off-campus in a crappy house with my friends. Even though we weren't supposed to get a dog, I did anyways because the house had a yard and was going to fall apart any second.

My school allowed caged pets in the dorms i.e. "Pets that normally live in a contained environment (gerbils, hamsters, harmless snakes, white rats, birds, and fish)"... I had a hamster and a girl down the hall from me had a rabbit. I think there was a bird in the building and I know a girl in another hall had a chinchilla. Schools that offer the facilities for students to keep dogs and cats are great and it sounds like the ones that do are taking the appropriate measures to make sure they're well-cared for.

I went to UMass, we weren't allowed to have anything. But my roommate and I and a friend each got a hamster. When everyone was moving out at the end of the year I saw someone bring out a rabbit! I knew of a few snakes in the dorms too. As far as I could tell no one really followed any of the rules of the dorms.

FSU does not allow animals in dorms except for fish. I did bring my tortoise in the dorm and everyone loved him! Now that I live off campus I adopted a puppy and at times bring her on campus for walks. I wish they were more pet friendly, but most undergrads are not that responsible.

We were only allowed to have fish in the dorms, but some people had things like turtles or newts. I know a girl who had two cats in her room for a whole semester though.

I don't know that it would be good to have a cat or a dog in a dorm though, not only because you're sharing it with other people who might have aversions or allergies, but because they probably don't have a lot of room, and I know when I was living in the dorms I didn't have time to care for one properly.

I'm deathly allergic to rabbit dander, for example, so if anybody in my dorm had a rabbit, I would be puffy and red and hive-ridden all the time.
