Remember that poll to help America pick a pooch for Barack Obama? Although rescuing is usually a good option, his daughters suffer from allergies, meaning a hypoallergenic dog would do best in this home. Timed to coincide with his acceptance of the Democratic Party nomination, the AKC's released the results: a Poodle.
Personally, of the five finalists (Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested, Miniature Schnauzer, Poodle, and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier), I was pulling for the mini Schnauzer — do you agree with the suggestion of any of the three sizes of poodles, or do you have a different idea?

I would have picked the SC Wheaten over a poodle - poodles can be too high strung.
1Yea when I was little one of my friends had a poodle and it was CRAZY!
2I am not a poodle fan. Plus if you cut them for show they look a little silly.
3I don't agree. I think the Miniature Schnauzer would have been a much better choice.
4I want to pick a dog for McCain
5You can rescue purebred dogs!
6I think they should go with a Maltese like my little puppy. He's hypoallergenic and a super playful and easy to take care of dog!
I even have pics in my album!
7He loves little kids and he loves attention. A poodle just does not seem right for the Obama kids. I never have liked poodles!
I love my Mozzy Mozzarella.
Coton de Tulear, they're not AKC recognized, but they are adorable dogs and hypoallergenic! Though, I really am not a poodle fan.
8Not a poodle fan as all the ones I've met have been absolutely nutters. I was hoping they'd get either a bichon or a schnauzer.
9I dislike poodles, and I've never encountered one that seemed like a good family pet at all.

11I probably would've picked a miniature Schnauzer too...they are very mellow and great with kids. Poodles can be fairly nice dogs too, but you have to get one from a reputable breeder that breeds for temperament so you don't get one that's nuts.
12Mini Shnauz here, all the way. Loved a great one when I was a wee one. She was part clown, part dedicated buddy, and absolutely no sneezes whatsoever.
13A standard (and unshaved) poodle from hunting stock would be a hardy and beautiful dog.
14I think it's more important to make sure the family considers adopting a dog from a shelter.
15Just going by looks I think the Bichon Frise, Mini Schnauzer, and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier are adorable. My dog is half schnauzer though and he is awful with kids. I don't know if that is the breed or just him.
