he loves to chase his favorite toy (a soccer ball with two ropes attached), but he also loves to bring it back and play some tug.

My little man loves to play fetch with any of his stuffed toys (they almost always have to be the soft plush ones), and he brings it back like a good boy (most of the time)! After a while he stops, lays down, and nurses it until he falls asleep. Silly!

carson gets in moods where he decides it's play time. usually when mom and dad are spooning in bed or working out. carson will bring over lil buddy or his tennis ball and start playing and expect us to throw it for him. he's great about bringing it back to us but once he's not in the mood, there's no amount of throwing his toys that will get him to play unless he wants to.

See it all depends on which dog you're talking about! Axle will fetch the ball, and bring it to you, but you have to tug for a bit to get it back (or ignore him, then he'll drop it). Newton is a different story though, he'll go get the ball, but he won't return, that is if he's even in the mood. Sometimes he'll watch you throw the ball, and watch it go, sit down and look at you like 'what? You go get the ball!'. Little bugger!

He'll run and catch it but once he brings it back, he won't drop the ball.

One of my cats is absolutely obsessed with chasing objects - small balls are her favorite - but then waits for me to come get it and then throw it again. Shes never been around dogs, so I have no idea how this happened.

One of our dogs is never "empty-mouthed". She always has a ball in her mouth, and will always play fetch if you're available!

One of my Persians loved to fetch! I would bounce a squishy ball down a flight of stairs, 15 deep, and she would chase after it and bring it back to me. She would actually place the ball in my hand, and bounce excitedly around for more! I got tired before she did!

Zena is unique. Sometimes, she's smart enough to bring it back to me so I can roll it again. Other times, she speeds off to much on it somewhere else (normally the couch). Then other times, she just stares at me like I must be crazy if I expect her to fetch the ball. This happens with toys too.
