Since I was relocating when I first got my pooch, I didn't finally pick North up until I was settled into my NYC apartment when he was around nine weeks old. How old was your pet when it came home?

My puppy was 7 weeks and 4 days old
Aren't dogs supposed to stay with their mother and litter mates a minimum of 8 weeks? I seem to remember that from when I got my puppy. Something about getting proper social skills maybe?
Both my pets are rescued from the streets, and estimated to be about a year old when they came to live with me.
My girl was 8 1/2 weeks- I picked her out at 2 weeks but left her with her mom for over 8 weeks because I wanted her to have the best possible experience she could. She got some extra bonding time with her mom because some took their puppies home at 7 weeks. I think it did her good, she only had one hard night and that was the first night, in the crate- totally understandable. After that she has had no separation problems. I think she was ready to be with me!
My husband and I got our dog, Eegor, when he was a few days shy of 7 weeks. He was 3.4 pounds, and the cutest thing I have EVER seen... but maybe I'm a bit partial, hehe.
about 8 weeks when our friend/trainer got the dog, but we wont be seeing our cute little Australian Shepherd for 2 more month
My kitten were around 8 weeks but my dog was already 1-2 when we rescued her.
I just brought puppy Ali home last week ... she's a very tiny Yorkie at 1.5 lbs right now. She was 15 weeks when I brought her home. The smaller they are, the more time they need with the litter & their mama.
Newton was 4 months old when I rescued him.
Axle was 8 weeks when we rescued him.
I have two pound puppies--one was rescued at 6 mos. and the other at 18 mos.
Cuba was 12 weeks old.
I am happy that so many people gave rescue pets good homes! I have two rescues and love them both dearly. One was about 18 months old when we got him and the other was about three years old when we got her. Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell exactly since they didn't have the best care previously.
I got my dog from the shelter. We think he was about 5 years old. My rabbit was a rescue. He was maybe 3 years old.
He was just about 8 weeks old when we adopted him.
my dog is also a rescue, so he was about a year old. Seven years later, he still acts like a puppy
i rescued bailey and they estimated him to be a year and a half. he's a sweetie!
I rescued Sam my dog from an abusive home and being put down, I was told he was two but then the dog warden who brought him to me said no he’s only 18 months and we were told by the vet he may have been only a little over a year. He’s still growing now so we think the vet was right.
My fluffy was 2 month old when we got him settle at our house.. but his mommy lives only two houses away, we kept visiting her and his brothers...
I think Mikey was about 4 or 5 weeks, maybe. Henry was a little older, since he was a shelter rescue.
My dog was 7 weeks. It was a little too soon I think. He was still very young.
I adopted Manny from the shelter, he was about 2 years old...
Zena was 3 and half years old when we adopted her.
Over 12 weeks with my Raider.
My girl (see photo) was 5 months old
Found dog #1 when she was running down the street in my town. Never could find the owner, so she stayed with me. She was approximately 4 months old.
Dog #2 was a planned thing. He was 5 months.
I also have 4 cats - one was 3 wks old (too young, but feral and mother suspected dead), two were about 4 months old and one was 1.5 yrs old. All technically rescues/surrenders. The two four month old kittens were living outside of a crack house next to the place where I was working (a minimum security prison). Sadly, the husband did not want any prison related names for them!
Bella was 5 months, and Harlow was a little over 6 months.
Sometimes I'm sad that I missed the itty bitty puppy stages with them,
but oh well. I didn't have the headache of having to train both of them, either.
I really wanted to rescue but the woman that runs the local dachshund rescue is a freak and would not give me a dog because I work full time. I was so mad that I found a breeder and have my little Noodle Love!
My cat about five years old when I adopted him. I prefer to adopt adult cats to kittens.
My Abbey was a little over 6 weeks when I brought her home.
My kitten was 12 weeks old when we got her from the animal shelter
Logan spent this first 10 weeks of his life at the animal shelter with his mom and 4 siblings (we picked him out at 6 weeks, though)! I think it helped him a lot, socially, because even at 6 months old, he's great with people, dogs, cats - you name it! He only cried the first night we got him, was sleeping through the night (not having to get up and go out for a potty) by day 4, and hasn't had an accident in the house since he was 12 weeks old.
My Stella was a rescue too, by the way- her mom was rescued not 2 weeks before she had a litter of 8.
I think puppies should be at least 10 weeks old before they go away from the mother. At least for small breeds
