Before I get into recapping the latest episode of the Greatest American Dog, I wanted to see if I'm the only one feeling a tad inadequate about my pup's training. Last night showed Bill performing this silly trick with his adorable dog, Star.

OMG! I remember the 20 minutes I spent one night trying to teach North to balance a yum on his nose. Now maybe it was just his smooshy, but not only couldn't I get him to balance anything, he kept tilting his mouth up as I got near his face with the treat. Silly pup. Would your dog ever do anything like this?

As much as I love Ruby, she's just not very smart.
1I can get Storm to wait but not wait while it is in her mouth!!
2I hope I can teach my pup this!
3She is so smart and calm...she is only 9 weeks right now tho so we are starting to work on lay down (she can sit!). We want to take it one trick @ a time tho...so we don't over-load her.
I think that was my favorite part of last night's episode. Either that or when Bill and Star won the first challenge
4Oliver will stand up for every "cookie" that you give him, but that's the most you'll get outta him!
5Cuba is smart but he is a chow hound so the chances of him waiting to eat a treat would have to be when hell froze over. I worry when he doesn't want to eat a treat.
6I've never seen a dog hold a treat in his mouth and just let it sit there, like that dog. I've seen the treat on the nose/muzzle...but I thought this was really cute and amazing (or am I just easily amused??)
Last night was the first time I watched the show btw. I wish I would have started from the start.
7I haven't trained them to do this, but I'm pretty sure my "non-food-driven" dog would pick it up real quick. The other one doesn't have a shot though
8My dog doesn't even wait until I take the treat out of the box... She grabs the box off the counter... hows that for smart on her part and dumb on mine?
9Is there a Bill and Star fan club? Because I want to join it. I love them so much on the show! Star is so smart.
10balancing on the nose is one thing
11holding it in their mouth where they can actually taste it?
wild!
mad skills!
my doggy would crack
My dog, Max, a year old German Shepherd can hold it on his nose. But I didn't think in a million years he could wait even a millisecond if it was already in his mouth. But I just tried it now, and after about five minutes and almost a whole container of treats he's starting to get it. He actually held it in his mouth for a good five seconds! I'm so proud of him!
