Even if you're not totally on board with the pet cloning idea, you'd have to have a cold, cold heart not to at least melt at these pictures. I mean, baby puppies of any sort are awwww-worthy in my book.
This is Bernann McKinney from Hollywood, California holding up a clone of her late pitbull terrier, Booger, at the Seoul National University animal hospital in Korea on August 5. Five clones were created by South Korean scientists in the world's first commercial cloning of a pet dog . . . and the price of her love was nearly $50,000. She looks super happy with her new babe – they kinda look like twinsies– so I bet it's all worth it in her (check) book.

as much as I would love another Storm, I don't think I could do it.
1i couldn't either...
their personalities would still be different...wouldn't they???
it's cute...but way too out there for me...I just dunno about this one.
2That has to be the most disturbing thing I've ever heard! I would never ever clone my pets, even though I still miss my first dog.
It seems weird, and strange, and wrong. Certainly, the pups are super cute, and that lady looks uber happy, but still it has a bit of Frankenstein.
And, I doubt their personalities will be the same like that of the origin dog.
3I think that cloning is a great step in medical research but I couldn't possibly consider cloning one of my dogs. They are each one of a kind and I wouldn't want it any other way. Though the photos are cute!
4sick really, you can love your pets just dont looooooooove them if ya know what i mean. 50 grand? could go a long way to help out animal rescue places in the name of her late pet.
5no kidding CaterpillarGirl..couldn't she have donated 50K to an animal shelter? i mean come on! that money could have been spent elsewhere and done alot more good.
6i agree with what everyone has said - that $50,000 could have gone to so many other things! and, i don't think temperament and personality can be cloned ... who knows how this dog will turn out. i could never clone my sheltie - he's one of a kind. i don't even think i could another black-tri ... cause that's special just for him. next sheltie will have to be a sable and white.
7sorry ... meant to say "i don't think i could ever OWN another black-tri" ... didn't proofread before sending.
8That woman looks like she's a little crazy anyway...
9I love Cuba and would be very sad if anything ever happened to him but I could never clone him. I will use his ashes to make a diamond though.
10With Sara's death on the horizon I can understand wanting to clone your beloved dog. I know I will be miserable without her, but at the same time I wouldn't do it. She had so many health issues that I wouldn't want to put her (cloned her?) through all the vet visits again. I'd rather spend my money taking care of another dog who needs a home. Also I will never get a pure-bred dog again...mixed breeds are so much healthier.
11sorry the puppies r cute, but im against stuff like cloning!!
12Why not ADOPT one of the millions of dogs that need loving homes? .. and donate the $50K to a shelter? Or several shelters?
13did she take all five clones? if not, what happens to them?
14I would never do it myself BUT I think that the mere fact that it is a possibility is simply amazing.
15Cloning pit bulls? Aren't there enough unwanted ones out there that someone could maybe ADOPT one from a shelter. Oh no, instead lets spend thousands of dollars to clone them. Seems a little asinine to me. For every dog that is going to be cloned means another dog that's going to be euthanized.
16I was going to say the same thing, ditorres. How do you choose which of the 5 clones to take? Or do you take them all??
17crazy! i agree that that was a terrible way for an animal lover to spend her money
it strikes
me as quite selfish
18God knows how i love Polka but I would never clone her!! That's really weird!
19but these little ones look super cute!
so many issues here...
first, her dog died of cancer, meaning the exact DNA used to make these clones are going to certainly be predisposed to cancer!
next, pitbulls.. shelter pits have a 1 in 500 chance of making it out alive.
AND - apparently her first dog wasn't all that special to her that she can just replace him with his 5 clones, thats not love, thats insanity.
Also, clones have proven to not be able to live as long as a normal bred pup would, they have all the aged predisposed issues their origin DNA has, making the problems of a 10 year old dog the same in a one week old pup. These dogs don't have a chance. She should get over the death of Booger the Pit, donate that money to shelter and enjoy her other 4 dogs (yes, she had 4 other dogs at home before cloning these!).
Its an abomination.
20$50,000???! I'm sorry, but that's a little sick and crazy....
21thats just weird! Don't get me wrong I LOVE my pets and will be sooo sad when they pass, but its life! I would never want to be sooo obsessed with a pet that I went to such extremes! When you get a pet, you get it with the understanding that one day he or she will be gone.
And as far as the cloning, its kinda like identical twins isn't it? DNA is the same but they can be totally different. Plus it follows the whole nature/nuture thing. Clon all you want, nothing will ever be EXACTLY the same.
22I'm too blinded by the cute to make any smart comments.
23With all the great dogs that could be adopted from shelters for a fraction of the cost, only the most self-indulgent schmuck would clone their dog.
