My pal Giggle is always on the ball! Flipping through the pages of this month's InTouch magazine, she came across these pics of this adorable new dog breed and alerted me ASAP! Crossed between a Jack Russell and Chihuahua, this little pint sized Jackahuahua is more lap dog than ball of energy, says breeder Suzy Mainprice:

"The Chihuahua takes out a lot of the natural instincts of the others, so you get more of a pet."
I think these little mutts are super cute, and their coloring reminds me of a certain closely clipped pup belonging to another Sugar Staffer!

While I think they're adorable,
this "mix" isn't anything new. I've seen several at the pound.
This "designer" dog thing has a gotten a bit out of control.

1I agree with couture. I wonder how many pound puppies will lose forever homes because they aren't fashionable enough. It's a shame that we (you) buy into this sad trend...
2I'm usually not a fan of small dogs but these are pretty cute. I'll stick to my family's love of labs. Both sides of my family have always owned them and I can't imagine ever not having one in my life.
3This isn't a breed. It's a mutt. A cute mutt but a mutt. My mix is part lab part border collie, but nobody calls him a collador or a labrlallie. He's my mutt and I love him.
4I agree with everyone who's said that it's sad. A mix breed is a mutt, and all these mixed breeds do is cause more pets to end up in shelters. If you want a mixed breed, please just go rescue one. Do your research on this Pet, I bet you'll find some surprises.
Instead of supporting byb and puppymills, you should look at supporting more rescues and shelters. Maybe throw a shout out to www.petfinder.com.
5Or 1-800-saveapet.com, which is connected to North Shore Animal League where I got my Kasey.
6if "new" breeds are created for a purpose, like a work related purpose or guarding instinct, then great.
If breeds are created solely for aesthetic purposes, I think we as humans should be ashamed of abusing our 'power' over the animals.
There are SO MANY existing breeds. and SO MANY responsible breeders. and SO MANY dogs in shelters and rescues. why needlessly create more?
and what happens to dogs cross bred into designer breeds that don't come out as cute as expected?
7Awesome site, j4ever!
8Also, if you MUST have a certain breed, try adopting it from a rescue organization!
awwww, they are so adorable!!!
9Those puppies are super cute, All puppies are! Like others said, I've seen these sorts at the pound all the time. There's a pet store down the street where I live and they sell "designer" dogs for THOUSANDS of dollars. If you ask whats the difference between them and a mutt they get very flustered and angry. Also I've known a few chihuahuas and doxie mixes, they're usually called chi-weenies or chi-doxies. Easier to say that daucshahuahua or whatever.
10My dog Rocco is the same mix - it isn't anything new. He actually doesn't look anything like those pups though he actually looks more like a Jack Russell but is tiny and skinny like a chihuahua.
11exactly, they are mutts even if they are adorable.
12I agree with all of the above comments.
13By posting this article from In Touch, at no point did I endorse their purchase, I was simply seeking to inform you about their existence.
14cute!!!!!!!!!
15Oh boy! Can you imagine the attitude of a Chihuahau combined with the energy of a Jack Russell? Dynamite on a stick!
16I agree with the previous posters about shelter dogs and cats. I've had four Persian cats, all "used." Oliver, my current sweetie, was found on petfinder.com. Great site!
17Renee, they're actually called Chiweiners. I know because I've had a whole BUNCH of chihuahua owners want to breed my doxies with their chihuahuas. I asked them what they were going to do with them, and was told, "Do you KNOW how much I can get for those?" At which point he got an EARFUL from me. Jerk wad.
18Wow, great another new over-priced mutt. A cute mutt but still a mutt.
19Chi-Weenie, chiweiners, close enough. There's actually a guy that wrote a childrens book about his mix called "Adventures of the Great Chiweenie" It's super cute.
20Besides, I think weenie is better that weiner. Just sounds nicer haha
I agree with everyone else who thinks the whole "designer" dog breed thing is getting out of control. I really get ticked when I see ads in the paper for "Chi-poms" or "Labradoodles" or "Puggles" and they want like $800 a pup for a mutt. According to that philosophy, my dog is a Rottenlab. It's so much better to go to a reputable breeder where you'll get a purebred that has been health-screened and that's got a pedigree and if you want a mutt, go to a rescue organization or the humane society.
21It irks me that people charge hundreds or thousands of dollars for dogs that have been coming into shelters for years, but nobody wanted...until pets became "in fashion".
22those are adorable!i want one!
23THEY ARE SO CUTE EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY BE CONSIDERED A MUTT. I WANT ONE JUST LIKE YOU SEE IN THE "IN TOUCH" MAGAZINE THAT IS TINY, SHORT HAIRED AND PARTY COLORED !!
24While they are very cute, there is nothing rare about a "Mix Breed". They have been around for centuries.
I agree with the majority of the posters. If you want a mix, rescue one.
wakeuppandora, you rock! Wonderful post.
