I thought about choosing this picture for a quotable quest, but couldn't resist using acrobatic cats as a conversation starter instead! Is this scene a familiar sight in your home with pets trying to scale things . . . appropriate or not?
If you're adding a cat, or having issues with curtain lovers already, consider substituting tension rods for wall-drilled ones – the tension rods can't hold your pet's weight and will simply fall down if he tries to jump up. Another option is adding vertical blinds (versus horizontal) to your windows as kitty can't easily get up them, but can still see outside! Eva was more of a climber when she was smaller, now that she's a bigger girl she's more fond of jumping to the highest spots in the place.
For another cute climbing kitty picture check out my photo album "My Favorite Diva"
1i spooked my kitty the other day when i walked outside and within a second he had launched himself at least 6 feet and was spread eagle against the cedar tree. thankfully, he keeps his climbing/jumping antics for the outside. it's amazing how high he lept with one jump.
2my best friend cat loved the cupboard where she keeps her towels. If it's open, she jumps in there. She's also a screen climber haha
3I have one climber and one non-climber. The non-climber just wants to be in my lap all the time!
4Not The Olive Loaf. That would require too much energy. Oliver is ALL about conservation!
5My cats really aren't that bad. Though, now that I think of it, my cats Phil and Suzi climb to the top of my two story house. Quite frightening, but they have good balance...I hope!
6Lola climbs up the screens, we rent so there goes a part of my security deposit! She jumps a lot more than climbs, like jumping on the counters, on top of the fridge, on top of the kitchen cabinets, and basically on top of anything she can get herself up to. Any ideas on how to get her to stop, I just don't want her to get hurt or break anything.
7Both Aimee and Buffy love to climb curtains. Switching to vertical blinds helps, but now they've found other stuff to climb. Xander, on the hand, is happy to lay in front of the tv and sleep. He's just like my husband.
8Mine are more jumpers than climbers--maybe because they're lazy and it's easier for them?
9Both of my cats are outside cats so while now and again they will climb trees but inside they don't climb on anything. Once my youngest tried to climb up my bed and up a painting my mother did, he got in trouble for that and never tried again.
10Chloe is definitely the climber of my two girls. I have three bookshelves that are suspended 10 feet off the ground, for the four years that I've had them Chloe has used the plain closet to to launch herself up and onto the bookshelf. Then she lounges up there. Any place that's at least 10 feet high or higher Chloe way find a way to climb out and hang out.
Her sister Ursy is content to stay on the ground and yowl at Chloe.
11We built this awesome cat tree that involves 6-foot-tall, foot-wide continuous wall of carpet. All the cats love to climb it like a tree -- even our new declawed kitty (declawed by whoever surrendered him to the shelter; I would never put my babies through that). He cannot climb all the way up (poor baby), but he does get about four feet off the ground, through muscle and will power!
12Eliot is declawed, so he can't really climb. He's more of a jumper anyway. He'll jump on the ledge by the door and perch up there and his favorite thing to do is to jump up onto the water pipes in the basement ceiling and walk along them until he's right above the washing machine and then he'll jump onto it and make this super loud BOOM! noise.
13Bubba has bever been a climber
14When my cat Maxi was a kitten, she would climb up our legs when we were at the dinner table - pants or not! Now that was painful.
15Mine just realized he's able to jump on top of the kitchen cabients! :S Hard to make him go down after..
