I'm a strong believer that pets can understand our tone of voice – and can gauge between bad and good puppy voice [1] no matter what we are actually saying. But as much as I think I know about pets, until North can talk, I'll never truly know what he's thinking. Most of the time I seem to have a rather happy pooch at home, but there are moments when he gives me the cold doggie shoulder when I'm just trying to play.
