I know it might seem silly to non-animal lovers – with so many humans without insurance of their own – but pet insurance is out there, available, and useful in some situations. If you have a purebred dog that can be prone to more (known) health problems, investing in insurance may be a smart move for her health and your financial future. I've heard one too many horror stories about owners neglecting to go for checkups, or opting out of necessary care their pets need because they can't afford the treatment. It's a sad cycle that affects humans and animals alike.
How do you feel about pet health insurance? Is your pet covered for those times in need?
I can't recommend insurance enough. One of our cats was regularly sick from allergies and had to have three operations during his (amazingly, 14 year) life. If we hadn't had the insurance the cost would have spiralled into thousands, yet the care was very much worth seeking as between operations he had a healthy, happy cat, so it wasn't the kind of situation where euthanasia is kinder. We'd have paid it no matter what, but thank goodness we didn't have to worry about where the money came from because it was hundreds rather than several thousand.
