We've had a crazy week of pachyderm births from the hippos to rhinos to this lil fella. Check out the yet-unnamed male newborn elephant at a zoo in Hanover, Germany . . . umm, seriously, what's in the water at the zoos in this country? Khaing Hnin Hnin delivered this baby on May 7 and he's only 33 hours old at the time of these photos! The mommy actually gave birth au natural – without the help of zookeepers – and already seems comfy watching over her new one and helping him eat. Soooo cute. See them close up when you read more.

6He is already bigger than many 33 year olds! Also, my inability to look at this photo due to its cuteness makes me think that baby elephants may be the cutest baby animal after kittens and puppies. I've been smitten ever since I saw a baby elephant run into a tree on the Planet Earth documentary series.

9If you love elephants, check out www.elephantsanctuary.org. It's in Arkansas and they house African & Asian elephants, males & females - almost all are rescued from a life of performing. They have a teaching program and 10 times per year have an "Elephant Experience" in which you can visit the sanctuary and live with the elephants for a weekend. I have been twice - got to go up close to a baby elephant, bathe them, file their nails, feed them - truly a memorable experience!

11Such amazing creatures! It's terrible what's happening to them out in the wild though. They've become more violent and agressive towads man over the years, because of encrouching on their habitats and poaching.
