I've heard that tattooing can be totally addictive – once you get one, you'll never stop. I have been with some pals while they've gotten their first ink, and I'm not entirely sure I could work up the courage to dive in. The thought of pain and especially the sound of the tattoo gun made me want to take cover in a corner somewhere!
So when I came across some pet tattoos featured on The Bark Blog, it has me convinced that these are some pretty devoted pet owners . . . not only to get a tattoo of their beloved pets, but to brave the actual act of getting it in the first place!
Obvs, I'm not too hip on the whole tattooing craze myself (and I don't see myself changing my mind anytime soon). Until then, I'll be the one in the corner cowering away from the dentist-drill-sound of the tattoo gun – how about you?

Many ADA companion dogs are tattooed inside their ears for ID purposes. At least the ones raised by my B-I-Ls sister are. And all of the other breeder/trainers that she works with also tattoo their puppies for ID purposes. They use lidocaine on the area then very quickly tattoo either the pups name or the breeder's name or a number/letter ID in their ear.
1I have 3 tattoos ... I'd consider it. I absolutely adore my Thor and don't know what I'll do when he's gone.
2I'm not a tattoo person, but I am dying for a pair of Uggs airbrushed with my puppies on them. Nordstrom just needs another Customer Appreciation Day (for their card holders) with the airbrushing lady! Too bad that I missed my first chance
3my dog has an ID tatoo in his ear.
4But tatoos are not for me.
I have two tattoos, but I can't say that I'd want to add one of my cats to my body as well.
5I'd tattoo something to commemorate Fuji but not necessarily a picture of him. Maybe just small paw prints?
6I would never get a tattoo of my dogs. Haha...I cannot imagine being about 60 and having some old wrinkly tattoo of a Jack Russell Terrier on my back.
7I like tattoos and I LOVE B-Bop but I don't know if I'd get his face on me. I like mn48225's idea of something to commemorate, like paw prints. But to each their own!
8I would get a little tattoo in honor of my pup, but I wouldn't get her image done.
9One of the best episodes of Miami Ink ever featured a big burly dude getting a tattoo of his beloved and recently deceased kitty on his chest, along with the kitty's name, Freckles. It was genuinely amusing, and I, too, love my kitties enough to bear memorial tattoos for them when they pass. I'm just not sure about a huge portrait.
10funny this topic should come up because i'm planning this right now. i'm thinking a head shot of him with his name in script underneath.
11I have 3 tattoos and one of them is to commemorate my dog that I had had since I was 8 years old. we had to put her down 2 years ago a month before my wedding
Her fav thing was apples so I got a tiny apple tattooed on the inside of my ankle so I will always
remember her.
12I might get my dog's name or a reminder of him. hotpink's apple idea is so sweet.
13I personally wouldn't get any tattoo but it totally doesn't surprise me that other people would get a tattoo of a beloved pet. Peoples' pets are everything to them. I think it makes more sense to get a tattoo of an animal you'll love forever versus a flower, current bf's name, Chinese symbol, etc.
I also love the idea hottpink's 'apple' tattoo- so sweet! I can't see ever regretting something so simple and meaningful as that.
14I actually just got a tatoo of my kitty just a couple months ago! It is very small and on my hip and I am so happy I got it. I didn't want a portrait so I just got an outline of a cat that has the same markings as my guy. He means the world to me and if I'm going to get a tatoo (this was my second) I wanted it to mean something very special.
15If I were into tattoos, I would definitely have a tattoo for my cats, but probably not their faces. I'd have something like their names or a symbol for each of them.
16I don't have any tattoos, but I was thinking of getting one. My cat died a couple weeks ago, and I thought i could get a small black cat tattoo in her honor.
17Once was enough for me! The tattoo guy had to shake me and remind me to breathe!!! I love my Oliver and my past cats and mini schnauzer, but I would really rather get an enema in a WalMart parking lot while doing a keg stand than go through that again!
18hmm, i had never thought of it. it is an appealing idea just because my little tess is all black with surprisingly orange eyes. this is intriguing...
19i also really like hottpink's idea.. unfortunately, my cat really likes cheetos and fritos and any little corners of chips she can get and i think a small black cat would probably be a little more tasteful unless i at some point develop a britney spears-level of cheeto love.
20I really love the idea of getting a tattoo to commemorate my pet more than a picture of them! To be honest - I've seen too many tat shows where the tat looks nothing like the pet ... so a small, discreet mushroom for my cat Schmoozer (who used to about knock you OVER when you opened a can of mushrooms) would be so much better than a pic of him. Ok, now I'm crying ... I still miss him. RIP Schmoo!
21it depends.. if the animals impacted your life or you had THAT much love for the animal - then it makes perfect sense. you consider some of your pets your 'babies', right? then i think if its that close to you, why wouldn't you be comfortable with getting a picture of it on you for memories? makes sense. plus its your body, anyone who disagrees with you is just stupid to even bother giving input, if you think about it.
22I would sooo get a tattoo for my pets!!
