One of YumSugar's friends sent word that she is traveling to San Diego to adopt an adorable pug named Hurley, who will be the mascot for her company. The dog is beyond cute (he's seen here dressed as a pudgy spider last Halloween) and I must admit, he does look a bit like his namesake, Lost's Jorge Garcia. Do you think it's fair to name pets after people (or characters) if it's an act of love?

that's funny, my boyfriend named our dog Hurley after Hurley from Lost because he loves the character. then 10 minutes later he said Wait no, lets name him Sawyer! and i said too late!!!
1I mean i wouldnt name my dog Kate... but Hurley... its appropriate for a dog!

4yeah it doesnt matter.....my dog is Nixon after the President and my cat is Edison after Thomas Edison (we call him Eddie for short!)...my aunt had a dog named Reagan Clare....the first part after the president and the second after me! And my Uncle had a dog named Truman after Truman Capote

9Sure. We named one of ours after our favorite waiter at Marie Callenders. He thinks it's hilarious, and always asks how the dog is doing.
10I'm naming my new pup after my favorite Carnivale character, Samson. He's a french bulldog, so I think it's appropriate!
11As an owner of a dog named Brando, yes I think it's a perfectly fine thing to do!

I used to have an albino African dwarf frog named Erica Kane who croaked (ha!) and was replaced by Ike & Tina.
13My dog's name is a human name. I'm not going to say it because I don't want a million dogs running around with his name. But it's very unique. And people love it.
14My cats are Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Joey....
15Angus is named after Angus Young (the lead guitar from AC/DC) and I think it really fits his personality. I wouldn't name him after someone I know personally, but I think it's OK for a character or celebrity name.

17Both my dogs are named after people...Sammy aka Samuel P. Duke, the Second President of James Madison and founding name of the Duke Dog mascot and Auggie aka Saint Augustine the Order of which runs Villanova. My husband put a lot of thought into their names and tied in our alma mater's in the process. Some people say we put too much thought into it, but hey they just mean that much more to us!!

20jennifer garner named her dog marthastewart in honor of her namesake. it's all in good fun.
21I have Attilla (as in the Hun), Rufus (as in Chaka Khan and...), Truman (as in Harry S.) and Tinker which was my Grandpa's nickname. So I'm all for it.
22i don't see anything wrong with it. i named my first dog after my grandpa (at his request). and, true to the name, my jack is a fire-cracker. my grandpa passed away a few months ago and i'm glad that i named the dog after him.
23I don't see what harm it could possibly do. You're the one that will be calling out the name, so as long as you're not embarrassed, there's no harm in naming your pet anything within reason.
24Totally, Colormesticky! But, I just have to wait till I get him! It's kind of pathetic, but I've had the name and the breed picked out for 4 years now. But thankfully, our building just started allowing dogs, so my wait is almost over!
25I don't see anything wrong w/ it. I named my cat Anderson Cooper (Coop for short).
