This isn't the first time we've seen lil Matzo on the set of Bedtime Stories . . . am I the only one hoping she'll have a cameo in this flick?! Adam seems to be giving the smushy a mini swimming lesson at this Santa Monica beach while on a break. Good thing he stays close because she's clearly just learning. If you're curious how to introduce a pup to the water (and to see more pictures of Matzo and Adam), read more.
- First off, allow your pup to get close to the water at her own pace – never force a pet in! Many dogs may not willingly walk in, but if you start walking into the shallow end, they'll likely follow right along.
- Pay extra attention to the size of the waves – measure the height of your dog against your leg. If the waves are hitting that part of your leg, keep the novice swimmers closer to shore.
- When your dog finally gets into the shallow water and splashes around, praise her enthusiastically in a "happy puppy voice" – this lets her know it's safe and a good idea to play!
- For those pups that like to fetch on dry land, try tossing a ball into shallow water to see if she'll fetch it. This can be all the incentive a pup needs – just in case, attach a rope so you don't lose the toy altogether!

My family lost our english bulldog to an in-ground swimming pool....He would often stand on the steps in the shallow end to cool off and have a drink, and seemed completely comfortable around the pool and didnt mind getting wet... but he slipped off the steps one day unsupervised and drowned.
I cannot stress enough to be careful around water with dogs! Especially heavy boned dogs that sink and cannot swim, like my Bentley (Rest In Peace) and Adam Sandler's Matzo. Ever since that incident, we attach a device called a 'safety turtle' to our dogs collars (Its something designed for kids, but works for our dogs). Its a device that sets off an alarm in your house when it gets wet.
Please please please always supervise your dogs around water! There need not be another senseless loss of a beloved family pet.
1PS-I just found the website, www.safetyturtle.com .....apparently other people are using it for dogs too!
2Good tips for dogs! We didn't have to teach our Heeler to swim- he practically dragged us into the water.
3Poor baby Matzo!
4Our dog loved the water! We never really took him anywhere with deep water, but everytime we went to the creek, he would drag us in there!
5I loves me some Matzo Ball!
6One of my puggles can swim and she does very well. I started her when she was a puppy. My other one that I adopted can't swim. She kind of panic's and splashes water. Luckliy though she has a life vest so she won't sink. And most people think that all dogs can swim! HA
7My beagle is terrified of the waves. No matter how much I tried to encourage her and praiser her... she kept on pulling away. Sigh.
8This dog is so cool looking!
9My Taro LOVES the sea, he can swim, not like a retriever, but he manages to get his head out of water LOL
10homer (a bassador) loves the beach, but will only walk on the incoming waves.. once the water gets past his chest, he freaks! hehehe.. rightfully so, he's very top heavy and would likely sink.
11Hello everyone ... I am a new user here and have information for you all. This dog's name is "Babu" not "Matzoball". You find out, as I did, at adamsandler.com. It seems as though "Matzoball" may have passed away, as indicated in a video posted by adam in the website. lol
12britchick is correct. Matz has passed away recently, and that is his new pupgirl Babu.
Poor Matz. She will be missed terribly. Babu is adorable, too.
