Nope, it's not a joke. VIP Fibers is the first and original company to specialize in hand-spinning your pet's fur into "Fur-Ever Yarn." All you've got to do is brush your pet and send in the fur, and then you'll receive yarn to knit, crochet, or weave anything you want from a scarf to a stocking . . . to, yes, patterns for this bikini.
They've got a list of breeds whose hair they accept as the diameter of individual hairs to determine how well the yarn will work – the finer the fiber, the softer the yarn and the better for wearing! Unfortunately for me, Boston Terriers aren't listed so I've simply thrown out that baggie of hair I've pulled using the Furminator! Oh well, a college friend once told me I was too high strung to knit anyway – I was a tad obsessed with getting each row perfectly even so I'm abstaining from the possibilities of traveling to Florida without my dog, but with a bikini handwoven of his hair. I'll opt for dog hair on my coat over smelling like a wet dog at the beach, but maybe I'm just not fashion forward enough – what about you?

I don't even know what to make of that.
Absolutely not!
Ummm... NO- that would be funny to knit my pet a "shirt" out of her own fur though!
Ewwww! No!!!!
I don't see the big deal. How is it any different from wool? I grew up with Chows and they shed so much that we joked about it all the time. It's a good way to use something that would otherwise be thrown away. Aren't we supposed to reduce, reuse, and recycle?
I would wear a sweater made out of dog hair no way would I wear a bikini.
Yicky Yicky! I checked out the site and they also make stoles and ipod cases. Hot!
honestly that is disgusting.......who said yes!?! thats so weird....i already hate having my dog/cats hair all over my clothes why would i want it all over my body!?!
Oh NO! No way. I love my pets but I wouldn't want to wear them.
I know where Lenny, my dirty little dog, has been - I spend my days picking up his hair - I sometimes inadvertantly eat it - NO WAY would I wear it, on purpose anyway!!!!
That's disgusting to me. Yuck!
I'm slightly allergic to dogs, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be to have my dog's hair right up against my skin like that! I know it's really the dander that is the alergen, but I think the power of suggestion would be enough!
Dude. Pet hair is for the vacuum, not to make into clothes!
I read something about weaving pet fur into yarn after my dog passed and thought how great it sounded. I read it in one of my mom's Prevention magazine and one of the writers talked about her dogs passing and how her mom weaved the fur into yarn and she wear a scarf every winter made of his fur. I thought it was the sweetest thing I ever heard. I would Love to do this but definitely not in the form of a bikini.
OMG! how could anyone hurt something so precious
any one who would do that to a dog is wbsolutely ugly
It's not like it's hurting the dog. It's like shearing a sheep - maybe even better, cuz you're just grooming it as usual. I agree with BloodyFuFu. What's the big deal? We use yarn from sheep and alpaca fur all the time. Yarn snobs even prefer it.
That said, I wouldn't wear a bikini made of my pet's fur. Sweaters, scarves, hats? Sure. Bikini? No. This is for the same reason I wouldn't wear a wool bikini - natural animal fiber can be scratchy, and that doesn't sound pleasant to wear on such sensitive skin. Also, I would feel a little weird with my pet's fur against my privates. XD
Nasty doesn't begin to describe this. Eeeek.
I'm scared on so many levels!
um where do u go to get one because i would love one wht is the site callled
it is verry cool i would wear one arnt we supposed to reuse recycle why not it is no different than using wool but it gets people to brush there dogs and spend more time with them ..
go to vipfibers.com to get a dog hair bikini
I have a northern breed dog that sits in snow banks for hours - I cannont think of anything than would be warmer in the winter than a scarf or sweater made of her fur. A bikini on the other hand would kind of defeat the purpose . . .
