Road Trip in a . . . ?

Because I clearly can't say it enough, riding in a car with unsecured pets is dangerous for both of you! I've shared my love for North's carseat, but this clip takes it one step further, explaining some of the risks of tackling the open road with free-roaming pups.

I'd like to add that airbags can severely injure dogs riding shotgun, so please, please, please think twice before allowing a pup to ride in the front seat (or, worse yet, on your lap). Although I don't know the exact details, I do know that cutie pie Ruby lost her legs in a car accident (before she was rescued). Now it's time to 'fess up – when your pet goes bye-bye in the car, how does he travel?

Every weekend my parents go to the ski hill with all the aniamls. When Iw as younger and used to go with them our two dogs would go in crates in the back of the truck that were insulated with tons of blankets, and all the kitties had their seperate kitty crates too hahaha.

We used to take my dog roaming free all the time when I was younger. But he was always in the backseat, even if he wanted up front!

years ago i let my sheltie ride free. however, it's not worth the risk. now my sheltie and aussies ride in sturdy wire crates (no room for extra passengers!). they are happy in their crates and a whole lot safer.

Sometimes I admit I let Cuba lay on my lap but there are times that he is harnessed into his car seat.

My dogs are kept in a carseat. I use to keep them in the crate and one of my dogs would bark and it would distract me.The carseat is one of the best things I bought for them.

i can't call my dogs 'roam free' because they sleep soundly on the backseat on car rides to the state park every weekend.

I admit Bop roams free. Usually he just sleeps in the back seat. He's not allowed on the driver and if there's a passenger he lays on their lap. I tried to get him to stay in the car seat but he kept freaking out and tried to jump out while attached and was dangling out of it. I was so freaked I never used it again.

I think it's SO CUTE when I see dogs roaming free in other cars, but it also makes me sad because I can imagine that dog all bloody and smashed up if there was an accident. I think a very small minority of people actually consider this. My cats are in a carrier that straps in with the seatbelt when they're in the car.

It's not as fun or attention-grabbing to strap them in or cage them, but it's the safest thing for them.

It matters not if pup always stays in the backseat! It's more than 2 or 3 pounds hitting your head: when you slam on the brakes, your pet is still moving at the speed your car was traveling. The velocity they hit you at makes the force they hit you with even greater. Your pet could kill you just as easily as an unsecured tool box in your backseat could kill you. To say nothing about them getting killed. It's the same reason you should alway secure luggage, even if it's in your trunk.

Seatbelt! My Stella has a harness that attaches to a seatbelt and feels more secure, I can tell.

My dogs free roam, but only in the back seat, no dogs allowed up front. However, we don't drive with them often, only if we're going to the vet or the groomers.

Actually a crate is just as dangerous for you and your animals as if they were roaming free. the force of an accident is so great that it can bash the crates into you, and bash the dogs into the crate walls creating horrible injury for everyone.
