I have one dog but I wish I had another so she could have a playmate. Growing up, we always had two or three dogs, (and sometimes a cat) but they were always small breeds like chihuahuas so it didn't seem like the dogs overwhelmed the house. My grandma has four chihuahuas and she loves them all.

I have 3 dogs and one cat. The cat is the meanest of all of them. I need a beware of cat sign @ my house. My cat looks cute just don't touch her!

We have four, but only one big animal. A dog, 2 guinea pigs, and a lizard.

If you have the means to take care of them all, I say the more the merrier! I'm not sure most people take care of their animals they way they should though (dental care, grooming, regular vet trips, etc). My Parents have nine dogs. Of course, they are breeders/showers, so... lol I personally have three cats in my house, with plans for one dog, and probably others as our family grows.

two dogs, a purebred shih tzu and a purebred mutt. my hamster died about a year ago, and i'm dying for another one. stupid me gave away all of her stuff though, so i'd have to start from scratch lol.

Currently I just have one very large cat. I'd love to have more, but I live in a one-bedroom with my boyfriend and think that anything else might be a little too much. I'd love to have another cat!

I'd also eventually like a dog, but since I'm into larger breeds I think it's best to wait until we can afford a house.

We have one dog right now (mine!) and my fiance wants his "own" so we have one baby on the way to be born in a couple of weeks. I am personally into mutts from the pound, which is what I have now, but he has always wanted a pure bred lab from puppy stage so we decided to find a really reputable breeder of English stock labs. This place even has their dogs donate blood. I'm not sure I'm ready for a puppy though, lots of work and money.

Also have plans for some chickens down the road.

Oh also that hag non entity paris hilton... she has so many pets because she is so desperate for love and attention... it's sick!

hotpink - I had a guinea pig. It was about 15 years ago though. We had to give it away because my whole family seemed to be allergic to it.

I say two or three cats, dogs, or a cat/dog combo. One of my pet peeves is people who have a bunch of cats or dogs and don't take care of them right because they can't afford good food for all of them, or vet care at the same time, or give them all the individual love they need. You're not doing them any favors.

Just Buckeye the Maltipoo and Gizmo the Shih Tzu. The two most spoiled dogs in the world=)

One at the moment, but Thursday I get to pick up my Boston terrier puppy. I'm a little nervous about the puppy getting along with my cat, so it's nice to hear that others have both a cat and a dog.

we have 2 cats and one dog but when we move to a house with a backyard we want at least one, maybe two more dogs and probably another cat!!!

I agree with Akirstan. I have three cats and two shih tzu and I am able to take care of all them. So no limit but then again so many people treat their animals like crap and never take care of them so I understand the limit but if you have proof their taken cared of them sure why dont.

5 dogs and 1 cat and they are part of our family, love them all! My father loved to hunt and we always had lots of dogs and he still has about 7 or 8 and they are treated as part of the family, he has a few that people just left out along the road and some that people just didn't want them and were going to have them put down. He loves them all and they have 25 acres to run and play on.

Two Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers and one cockatiel. We had two turtles and two big catfish that lived in the tank with them, but the turtles really needed a better environment, so I sent them to live in a refuge in Florida.
We are thinking about moving to a bigger house in the near future, and then, I'll be able to foster a dog or two that we get in rescue. That will be nice!

I have one Australian Shep mix, one Lab mix, one min German Shep, one Yorkie, one Maltese, one min Poodle and one chow. Love them all. Have had my chow since I was 7. If you have the time, the room and the money, I say have as many animals as you can love, care for and provide for. They should be treated like children, not like an accessory. All my dogs sleep in the bedroom. The little ones go on the bed, two big ones at the foot of the bed and the chow prefers the floor so she sleeps right next to it. They're all the best. Paris Hilton can't take care of hers with that kind of lifestyle- there's a difference.

One dog, one tortoise. I'd like to get another dog when we move into a bigger place and another reptile- an iguana or a monitor. We'll see
